    G-Shock straps are uncomfortable

I own a GLX-5600 and it's not a very comfortable watch to wear. I think it's because of the strap. The straps are fixed rigidly to the timepiece at an angle, which means the watch means the strap strains against the movements of my wrist. Is these some sort of custom strap I can replace them with? Like leather?

I agree that they can be uncomfortable at times, especially when they have those wavy ridges like a dive strap. I've never tried to replace one but I'm sure there are member here who have. If you want something softer get a Timex Ironman, they are extremely comfortable and flexible.

I don't find any of my 8 G Shocks uncomfortable.

You could try boiling the strap, this will soften it up a bit. Alternatively, you could buy a Zulu strap with adaptors.

    There's G shock straps and there's G Shock Straps.

    I have a GWM5600.
Stock strap on the black version is rigid and not nice to wear.
The stock straps on the white and yellow versions are different and far more comfortable.

The strap from a GW5000 fits the GWM5600 and is very comfortable.

I think the GLX5600, GWM5600, GW5000, plus a few others all have interchangable straps.
In which case get the GW5000 strap.

+1 its really comfortable or you can put a nylon strap on it. There are some leather ones but its difficult to find them.

If your control is only one, how can you say strap(s) plural? You generally get what you pay for in a G-Shock. Diversify yourself and you might find your GLX on the for sale forum. :)

Some GLS-5600L comes with strap adapters and leather strap. I think it is more comfortable than the GLX 5600 resin band. I guess you can switch the GLX resin band with the GLS strap adaptor (not sure).

I read that the GLX-5600 uses 16mm spring bars to hold its straps in place. What if I bought a leather strap that is 16mm or less in width? Would that allow me to dispense with the adapters?

Yes, but the usual 16mm strap will look strange on such a large watch.
You could take a look here, there are some original casio straps with 16mm ends for Gs:
