    @Maksim; your advice saved my LIFE, thanks

    others: thanks, I use what's available at home (borrowing from the wifey's)

    ____________

    like Tsip said, the resins (straps and bezel) seem not to be affected by acetone as I have used it many times (that is why I used it on the button yesterday), just be very careful with the G-button and the strap-keeper (it can not handle high temperature as the resins as when you dye)

    btw, Tsip, I spent much time chasing after this GW-6900F (for a affordable price) only to find out that it has glossy resins - not matte for a dye job ... you ever tried bathing the glossy into acetone to take away the protective glossy coating? thanks

    The best thing I've found for sanding buttons smooth is a nail manicurer. It has six sanding surfaces which get progressively smoother, you get to choose the final surface as you go along. The shape and stiffness gives a lot of control for smooth even surfaces.

    Why are you guys using nail polish remover or acetone? Seems the safest stuff to use to get rid of the colored paint is Goof Off or Goo Gone. I used it to stealth my GW5600J-1 and it worked like a charm using a soft toothbrush. Seemed to add a nice matte sort of sheen to the bezel and strap as well.

    @Fob, I haven't intentionally tried to remove the gloss finish, but I have actually screwed up a matte finish using too much acetone. I'm afraid to try to take off a gloss costing because I worry that it make the colors uneven.

    Since we're on the topic of fixing/not ruining our G-shocks, here are a few pictures of some streaks on my black band, it's a limited edition collab, so it can't be easily replaced, does ANYBODY know how to fix this??? Not of these 'streaks' or 'scratches' have seemed to penetrate the resin, but I still can't remove them, I've tried washing with warm water, toothbrush and toothpaste, toothbrush and baking soda? I'ts really been bothering me. Please help if you know how to fix! :) Thanks

    willy;

    what kind of G is that? not all resins are created from the same material, as far as I know of, you have better chance of buying the bands to replace than fixing it

    however, I would try to boil it for around 20-30 minutes with middle temperature, (turn the knob of the stove below 5 as the max is 10)

    if it doesn't work out, I would dye with RIT black, same as the above boiling process (but before putting the strap in, boil the water then adding 3 table spoons of RIT per cup of water + vinegar )

    just don't blame me if it fails

    The G is the: G5500AL-1 (Alife collab) I don't think I have the balls to boil this, with my luck and stupidity, i'll totally f*** it up. I don't know much about RIT dye jobs, or dye jobs in general, I'd willing to give that a shot possibly, but just so you know, further up on that same part of the strap, before you reach the bezel, it has white designs for the alife logo, so if I did try a dye job, I would only be able to do it specifically on that area strap. Do you have any links that I could look at, that would show the materials you need, and how to do a dye job??? I would imagine this would be kind of a simple one, right?
