    Help choosing a new casio

im looking to buy a new casio after losing my $10 casio w-86. id like it to be solar and have a backlight that stays on for as long as you hold down the button. i like the square g shocks, so if there is one that does both of thows functions i want it!

I'm not aware of any current model Casio, solar or not, that keeps the illumination on as long as you hold down the light button. Most solars can illuminate for 1.5 or 3 seconds, but some are limited to 1.5 seconds only.

Don't know if they're considered "current," but the DW-5600 and DW-6900 both keep the light on as long as you hold the button, but they are not solar. If the watch is solar, odds are it will have the auto-el function, which is activated by a long-press of the light switch, so no constant illumination there, AFAIK.

You can pick solar or long illumination. the dw290 can be illuminated as long as the button is held but is not solar.

Unless solar and G Shock is just a must, check out some of Casio's other offerings. The W800H is square shaped, has 100M w/r, and comes with a 10-yr battery. (see below) Just take your time and find what you like. Then buy it and never come back here. JK. Sort of...

Encourage someone. The world has enough critics.

The specs for the W800 say, "LED Light with Afterglow," which means the light will not stay on as long as you hold the button, as far as I know.

You could get a W800 and do heyheyheyhey's glow tape mod. I did this to a W96-H yesterday, and some random Armitron today, to test out a posi-negative display.

Modified GWM5610-1 for night time visibility

    Here's heyheyheyhey's modded GWM-5610:

And here's a W96-H (same module as the W800, but not as good looking), and some random Armitron, modded today.

The reference watch on the right is my unbelievably accurate SKX779 Black Monster, which has a certain reputation for having decent lume.

Note: these are pics with NO backlight on. As a matter of fact, I disabled the backlight on the Armitron. The backlight on the W96-H is still functional, but the glowtape casts a much more even glow, and is brighter besides.
