    Melody watches

I just picked up a BGM-115GT. It has a weird display, kind of like an old LCD, and the light didn't work, so I figured it just needed a battery. After popping off the back, I discovered it had two batteries. One small one, and one tiny one. So I figured I'd better download the module. It is a melody watch. I've never had one before. I guess that explains the two batteries. I only keep regular Baby-G batteries in stock, so I guess I'll find out for sure once I change them out.

Just wondered if anyone had ever dealt with a melody watch before, or if that's just for girl watches.

    Re: Melody watches

    Hi there!
I remember there were several models of melody watches that Casio made back in the early 80s. Casionerd can probably shed some light on this.
I wonder if it was one of this that was used in a recent Cadbury chocolate ad?
I do know for sure that Casio did incorporate this novelty feature in their G-Shocks and Baby-Gs. take this two examples:

The BGM-100. When the top right 'play' button is pressed the watch plays a tune and the center screen on top will have a 'stick-figure' icon dancing to the tune. Both watches pictured here have different tunes by the way
    Then there's this G_Shock:

The GM-100. They have a similar M.O. The watch will play a tune when the play button is pressed but with a wider screen on top you now have a group of 'stick-figures' dancing in sequence to the tune!
I think Sjors might have more information about this watch.

    Re: Melody watches

Melody watches are cool. There are so many melody watches (different manufacturers) that you could collect just melody watches and not likely ever have a complete collection and always find something neat.

There are people who collect just melody watches, just calculator watches, etc.

Casio has made several melody watches (at least 20 or so) over the past three decades, most in the 80s. Not many Gs though. I only remember a couple of Baby Gs that had melodies.

The most famous Casio melody watch was in several models but the module is 82. It can play Happy Birthday on your Birthday, Merry Christmas on Xmas, chime hourly or every quarter hour like Big Ben, etc.

Casio also made several kid watches with melodies. They usually were colorful and featured cartoon characters on them. I think one was Huckleberry hound with something like a white case and baby blue band.

There were even a few petite Casio ladies watches with two or three melodies.

Casio also made a Calculator watch with melodies. Actually there were two, but one was the metal version and the other was the plastic version.

Although Casio pioneered numerous "first" watches, the musical watch predates Casio by hundreds of years. The Swiss created the first musical pocketwatch around 1725.

My favorite musical pocketwatch is featured in the movie For A Few Dollars More.

    I had this G'Mix GM-100-8JF for a short time.

It's now in the possession of Sjors.

I think he has a video of it playing a tune somewhere.

I got it working, and it plays three tunes. Some kind of Japanese techno I think.
