When I came home today I found the postman had finally delivered my new GW-4000-1A3JF. I can't complain, I just ordered it from a seller on Rakuten on Sunday evening, Monday morning Japan time, and here it is in NY on Friday. According to the USPS/EMS tracking though it sat at JFK for a day. Oh well... it's here! I have been wanting this one since it was first announced back in November before the tragic Thai floods delayed it. Then when it finally was available at the end of Feb I got cold feet thinking it was too similar to the 3000 series but I broke down over the past weekend and found it at a good price from a seller I had success with before and so - here it is!
My first impressions are it is quite different than the 3000 - it fits larger and is a bit wider, however it doesn't sit as high. I love the green highlights and the 3D numerals, it has a very comfortable feel. The strap is quite a bit softer and longer than the 3000/3500 too. In all it is a very comfortable and very sharp looking piece. I wasn't expecting the green highlights to be as subtle as they are... for some reason the online pics and Watch Tanaka's pics & vids made it look more fluorescent and bright, but actually it is quite tasteful... Funny, it is almost a normal analog in that respect, not so chunky like other G's and the markings aren't in your face. That might be my only quibble on this one - the text markings aren't that contrasty so subdials can be a little hard to read in some lighting mostly due to the faint color of the text. Compared to the 3000M, the text is almost invisible whereas the 3000 is very clear. Sure the 24 minute STW is pretty useless, so having the text even harder to read still, makes this a straight and narrow 3-hand analog. And a sharp one at that.

When I first put it on I immediately felt it wears larger than the 3000/3500, lets compare to its siblings. Confirm it is a bit bigger...
Funny how just a couple mm's can make a difference in how it wears - pretty obvious when switching from the 4000 to the 3000
And I had always loved the fit of the 3000/3500, now it looks a little small.
4000 is definitely bigger..
But the 3000 is taller...
Lume is great - I had just taken the 4000 out of its shipping box while the 3000 & 3500 were just taken from the window sill and were glowing as I grabbed them. The 3000 & 4000 are the winners...
