    Are Sample G's collectible?

I won a Sample stamped G on eBay today, I got it for £47 so even if it's only worth the same as a " normal" one of the same model I still think I got it for a good price.

I wanted to add to my small but growing group of GLX-5600's.

Are the sample watches considered any more collectible?

    This is it, GLX 5600F-1JF:

My guess would be no, but then, it's just a guess. For something this mass produced and probably still reasonably easily available on the Bay and elsewhere, it is unlikely as someone would likely prefer an unmarred version. That said, if there is a good story about the history of Casio samples or was an unobtainable version that didn't get a lot of orders then perhaps. Also, maybe if you wait 30 years.

But hey good price either way and certainly unique and of interest to you so still has value, no?

I liked the look of it for my collection first and foremost, and it comes across as unique to me, like you said. I would assume that any sample watches weren't made in HUGE numbers, so kind of rare to a certain degree. In my eyes anyway😊

They really aren't that special. They are marked sample so they aren't charged duty taxes. Many are first-run productions and may not have all the bugs worked out yet, and have had a lot of use showing it off to owners of stores. It's cool to have but monetarily no added value.

Cheers mate, it was really just an "I wonder" query. The seller has said all functions are working, and I wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

I still would have been interested in the watch for another GLX anyway, and the price I won it at was good for me.

    Re: Are Sample G's collectible?

after talking to a couple old employees, the S isnt just for sample its also for ones given to staff to wear while on the job, (bit like how footlocker employees get a "budget" to buy the latest products to wear as in store promotion). these are full production models and are stamped in house, so in all essence the same as what we would buy, just someone took a hammer and branding iron to the backplate.

def. no market for it, if there was, ppl would just start stamping their backplates to bump up the value. tho ppl are will to pay more for an identical model with "japan" printed on the back so who knows ;)

    Re: Are Sample G's collectible?

I think I remember reading an old thread here about Sample Casio's. While some of them are fully functional production models like what Soulbridge said, some of them are partially functional prototypes for their sales / marketing people to showcase. Given the simplicity of the GLX5600 and the "Foral" variants are the same as the existing GLX5600 models aside from external differences, yours is likely a fully functional unit.
