Question A stealthy DW-5600 with positive display?

    Experts,

I am looking for my first G-Shock.

After much reading I found that the classic DW-5600 (non atomic) is what I want.

    But...which version? I like

    - minimal lettering on the glass and on the bezel. As subdued, stylish or even stealthy as it gets. LESS IS MORE

    - good visibility (so no negative displays, as cool as they are)

Perhaps a black DW-5600 with a positive golden screen? Does such a thing exist?

    So - stealthy, stylish, not-plain.

    SUGGESTIONS PLEASE ! :thanks

The DW5600E's generally all have a good bit of lettering, etc on the actual watch face. If you want one in gold, the DW5600EG would be the way to go. Quite a few on ebay for fairly cheap, but a little more than a standard DW5600E. If the gold coloring on the bezel letters bugs you, you can also stealth it by removing the lettering as has been described many times on the forum as well.

IMHO, I think that for the money the GW5600J is the way to go if you want a stealthy looking 5600 for fairly cheap (~ $60 USD) with all the bells and whistles.

Also, there is a limited edition made for the movie "Blow" which is fairly stealthy with less on the bezel in terms of wording, although it is a negative display...

Interested to see the other suggestions presented!

    Happy hunting!

Although not the best pic, this is the only one I had handy...

You can see my stealthed GW5600J w/ bullbars in this pic:

Greetings and Welcome to the Forum!

The majority (if not all) of the non-atomic 5600's have quite a bit of lettering on them, sometimes of three or four colors. I also dislike this characteristic of those models. Although I do respect they are the "classics" and are fine models.

My personal favorite in the 5600 series is the Solar/Atomic GW5600J-1.

It's got a nearly monochrome appearance with very few colors and the least amount of lettering. It's also very comfortable, is a real bargain at less than $65.00 and it's overall looks are in my opinion the best. As an Atomic, if you happen to live in an area with no coverage it's no big deal, as you simply set the watch as you would one without the atomic feature. As far a solar is concerned I see it as a big benefit as there is no battery to deal with other than the rechargeable which is sure to outlast a regular battery by quite some time. So in my opinion there is no downside to this watch. Here's a picture of mine, and a link to the watch.

The downside of this watch for me was that you can't show both the day of the week and the date. Since I'm retired, the days all run together and I need something to tell me what day it is, as well as the date. Just MHO, and those that carry a cell phone have this problem solved for them. I don't carry one, so my watch is the only thing I have for this purpose.

    YMMV, of course.

I would say gw5600j-1. It is atomic but not in Europe so thereby in line with you non-atomic request :)
Don't know how this model, in regard to accuracy, does in general but I measured a 5 second gain a month which is pretty good I think.

The easy solution is one push of the button, changes the display from the day to the month and date. I like it, the current display no matter what mode you leave the date window in, is very clean and simple. I've never found pushing a button too much work....

All watches, not just G's vary a bit in terms of accuracy. My GW5600J-1 gains just 1 second per month. I'm very impressed and happy with a result like that. And yet that said I would also be happy if it was off 10 seconds, as after all I'm not launching space shuttles...ha..ha..ha...

    Cheers...

Thumbs Up Re: A stealthy DW-5600 with positive display?

Hard to go wrong with a dw5600e. Very inexpensive and a solid performer. Here is mine with stealthed bezel and low-lite zulu.

Re: A stealthy DW-5600 with positive display?

Any black resin strap/bezel'd square G is stealthy in my opinion...but they are also plain looking at the same time no matter what.

I'd say that if you want something stealthy, stylish in a G-Shock sense but uncommon(not that many peeps wearing them)...then get a DW-5000SL (spike lee instead) or one of the GWM-5600's with the same dial color combo...

They're more unique as their color combo isn't as common as the 5600 series watch face... but they share the same form factor and simple appearance.

Like this guy. See the subtleness of the red in the dial on the 2nd pic? Ain't it a beauty? Now look at the rest of his pics with the watch at a distance...stealthy isn't it? And these aren't your plain Walmart G-Shocks. Plus these positive display 5000 reissues in the case of the 5000SL or homage in the the case of the GWM5600's are much clearer for some reason compared to the 5600E if that's in any contention for your purchase. But I'll admit, bang for your buck, the 5600E is hands down the winner. Actually I miss owning one also.
