    Watch retainer strap fix

    .

So how many of you guys out there w/ resin band G-Shocks have THIS happen to you on a daily basis when wearing your G-Shock, and have it drive you NuTs!!!!

I personally can't stand it when the excess strap of my resin band does this when the retainer falls loose, it drives me out of my mind!

So I found an easy solution................. :)

Go to your local hardware store and get some of these small pluming "o" rings. I'm not sure what size may work best for everyone as it's all relatvive to the size of your band as to what you need, but any hardware store should have these in bulk.

Anyway, so take an o-ring and slide it on to your strap over your buckle and OVER the retainer, so it looks like this -

Once in place, put your watch on as you nomraly would wear, buckle it, and then slide the stock retainer into place to hold the excess strap as it should. Now take the o-ring and slide it BACK down towards the buckle, so it bottoms out / stops at back of the retainer. If the o-ring is the right size it should already be kind of tight as it is on the strap it's self, but NOW it will also hold the retianer in place, and also can barely be seen too!

Here's a shot of what it shold look like from the inside of the band, to help in WHERE to place the o-ring in relationship to the strap retainer -

Finally, here's the view looking at the bottom of my wrist, as you can see the o-ring is almost invisable from this angle, and with a black band, almost no one can tell but you. PLUS it is EXTREEMLY comfortable and you DON'T feel the o-ring at all.

I now have these on ALL of my resin strap G-Shocks and the work very well, STAY in place, and have not broken one yet. Plus the real kicker is if I do, the o-rings are dirt cheap! Something like 20 or so o-rings for couple of dollars or so.

    HTH -

That is very helpful. And cheap. Cheap + helpful = awesome!

Personally, I hate floating keepers (what I call the "strap retainer"). Some of mine don't budge, others can't stop moving!

Completely unrelated to your post but... the G-Shocks in your signature seem to have nice black buckles instead of the ugly flat ones that come standard these days. Where did you get those?

    You like that? :)

Simple, buy a bunch of 6900 straps and switch them over. :)

The REAL kicker if you pay close attention is the 6900 strap on the G100! :O THAT one was a REAL pain in the you know what to get on, but it went on in the end (I'm even wearing it right now :)).

I HATE the silver buckles that come on some of the Gs, so any time I can I order a 6900 strap and swap them over (like I did on the G100 and the 6600).

    Thanks! :)

PS - I'll try and shoot some pics tonight when I get home of the G100 w/ the 6900 strap on it. I HATED the strap that came on my G100, and it was too short for me (and before I found the o ring trick), so I simply bought a 6900 strap and "made" it fit. :) I'll and shoot some pics tonight, it looks REALLY cool in person. :)

What's your technique on removing the buckle from the 6900 strap? I just removed mine last week for the first time and since it uses a solid bar and not a spring bar, i had to use a decent amount of force and "pry" the buckle apart, then push it back together on the new strap.

You can't remove plastic buckles, at least I haven't been able to. You gotta swap the whole strap.

Oh, I misunderstood. I thought esg2145 was talking about swapping buckles.

It is possible to remove and re-fit the plastic buckle, but it really is a pain and damaging the buckle itself is pretty likely. I removed mine by putting a long pair of scissors through the buckle and then pulling the scissors open to spread it. The buckle did come off with a good amt of effort but I could see it breaking as well.

I don't, I just buy an entire NEW 6900 Casio strap (casio sales and service.com stocks them, I have the PN at home).

Installing the 6900 strap on the 6600 was a piece of cake as it is the same set up, but again, getting it in the G100 was a nightmare. :(

You really have to see the G100 now though, looks great and completely changes the way it looks in my eyes, much more rugged looking. :)

Those two are the only two I have swtiched over to 6900 straps BTW, as they are the only two I could get to fit. To be honest w/ you I got lucky on the G100 as it fought tooth and nail to go in.

I'm guessing the other problem is that w/o the correct black buckle 6900 strap PN most of you are getting the regular silver buckle strap or the generic Casio one that comes on the 6600, or the non-Casio one (like at Wal Mart) that has the silver buckle also. Without the correct 6900 strap PN there is NO way you will get the one w/ the black buckle, TRUST ME, I've been there, done that. :(

I'll get ya'll the PN tonght when I get home. :)

Cool! I agree with you that the black plastic is a lot nicer sometimes, especially on an all-black watch

I didn't even know there were still models with black plastic buckles, I thought almost all of them came with the ugly flat silver ones these days but for a few like the MIRB models.

I guess you used this one?
