what is the final word on underwater button operation

The Frogman excepted, can you or can you not use the function buttons on other G Shocks underwater, as when diving? I thought I saw this before and it seems like most suggested that they not be pushed when submerged but didn't some others suggest that it was okay to do so? What's the verdict again?

Cool Re: what is the final word on underwater button operation

If you look in older recommendations from Casio, they stated you could use buttons underwater on 200 M watches. The only exception was the fifth light button that was not supposed to be used underwater. In even older recommendations it was even ok to use buttons underwater for 100M watches.

But all of a sudden in new recommendations not even 200 M watches should be operated under water. I do not believe the new recommendations, its just Casio who want to cover its own ass with inflated security.

If the seal is not broken a 200 M watch can have its buttons operated under water, atleast when we are talking normal dive depths to lets say 30 M(100").

G-Shocks have 2 rubber seals on each button. They should be fine for pressing under water.

According to a Frogman manual I looked at recently (related to another post), Frogman buttons shouldn't be operated underwater either.

I tend to agree with joakim that it's Casio covering themselves, and it should be ok to use the buttons on a well maintained G-Shock underwater.

Wow, so they sell a watch called Frogman but advise you don't use it's functions under water. Next the lawyers will make them say you cannot get it wet.

My only experience with this is my brother having a Casio DataBank watch that was only water resistant and he used the buttons all the time underwater in his hot tub. I think it's just CYA on Casios part to say not to use them.

I just want to correct myself a bit here. I'm not sure you can maintain the button seals like you can the gasket. What I should have said was a G-Shock that isn't really old, and hasn't been exposed to heat, chemicals or anything else that could damage the button's seals. I would imagine the same goes for any watch used for diving.

When I still had my G-Shock, I pushed the light button by accident in the shower. Never worked right again.
