What makes us like G-Shock so much? I don't know for sure, but they have a mysterious power that draws people to them. Even those that haven't been into G's since 2010 are compelled to visit Gshock forums and post.

I like that G-Shocks offer great durability, an amazing range of sizes, styles, colors and materials, a vast choice of features and technologies (solar or not, radio-controlled or not, GPS or not, ABC or not, analog/ana-digi/digital, etc.), a wide price range (from say $40 to thousands U.S.). They offer something for anyone who appreciates these attributes, at any price point.

I find that I enjoy my cheaper models as much as I do my more expensive models, which suits me fine since I'm retired and on a limited income. This allows me to have a selection of different models without breaking the bank.

Lot of functions and features condensed in a small package.

Older crowd? What are you talking about? He's only 80. Thirty to forty years more collecting in front of him, easy.

How are your eyes doing? I ask because I know how legibility of small LCD display info can be a challenge in later years. Let us know what CASIO watches you have and wrist shots if you've got 'em.

Re: What makes us like G-Shock so much?

Like many here, I've loved watches since I was a kid. Got my first black and white Lady's Timex mechanical (with a red second's hand) when I was about 6 years old. On to digitals in the '80's. Casio with a compass in the strap. Timex Ironman. As I've grown and changed, mechanical watches certainly have their place, but to me, G-Shock (and particularly the square) has always been the quintessential tough watch.

So after trying many models, a few years ago I got a GW-5000 and haven't looked back.

And because there are not nearly enough pics in this thread...

Homage watches democratize history for the common wrist.

Thanks for your comment. Wife and I recently had cataract surgery so distant vision has improved.
Near vision I need to read GShgock digi time? Only corectable with +250 reading specs. The reason
I bought 2 GD350 Vibe G's. Easiest to read in Casio line. The GW7900 the hardest to read IMO.
But wearing my GW3000 bb1 today. Fave Aviator watch. But somewhat easy to red Digi readout.

Re: What makes us like G-Shock so much?

I like the simple G-Shocks (DW5600, G100, DW9052, DW6900, etc) because they don't have a bunch of over-complicated functions. They are built to task and do that task very well. There is much beauty in simplicity; with age I believe most people learn this lesson. G-Shocks are watches that simply move out of time's way and let us appreciate time without worrying about what is on the wrist. I own and appreciate Timex, Victorinox, Citizen, Invicta, Air Blue, and other Casios....all have their niche, but I can make a G-Shock work in any situation.

Same experience but don't work near the ocean. My seikos last long but they die eventually but the casio still working.
