    They don't.

    The display is a LCD. On some models the light that illuminates the LCD is an LED.

    No reason to be confounded.

    LED = Light Emitting Diode

    LCD = Liquid Crystal Display

    I blame all of this confusion on Samsung. They confused the market on the difference between LCD and LED. All of their "LED" TV's are LCD. Not sure why they did this. Maybe it has something with them also selling AMOLED TV's and AMOLED is an advanced display technology. With some drawbacks.

    The lighting of the screens happens with LEDs now (perfectly white, long life) while older screens used some kind of lamps for lighting the screen panels.

    I didn't spot anything about an LED display being used on the GW-9400 in the specs at these two Casio sites.

    GW-9400-1 | PROFESSIONAL | G-SHOCK | Timepieces | CASIO

    GW9400-1 Master of G Mens Watches | Casio - G-Shock

    Which specs are you referring to?

    Yes, but the displays are still LCDs. They just use LED backlights (or edgelights) now. Originally, LCD TVs used fluorescent backlights.
