I've yet to understand the appeal although I've only seen one in person. I think it has a lot to do with keeping up with the Jones'. I really like the negative display but haven't seen any frog's. I do realllllly like the GW-200S-8 and will pick one up if I have the opportunity, but that's the only frog I really like.

My guess on why Frogs do not have negative displays is because of readability issues underwater.

    Re: Why Frogman ?

Why dive watches, when there is dive computer?
Why Aquanaut? Why Submariner? Why Proplof? Why Fifty Fathoms? Emperor Tuna? Supermarine? Super Ocean? Luminor? EcoZilla?....WHY!?

This question is KILLING ME @@!!

To be honest, more ppl wear G-Shock or Frogman to dive than any other dive watches out there.
There is no why. For some, they just like Frogman.

Even though you have a dive computer, you want a backup. Almost any G fits the bill though. As a diver, I would rather have a dive computer than a Frog when I dive. I would recommend that and a dw-5600e any day over a frog for diving. I still like frogs as watches though.

    Re: Why Frogman ?

    1. Weight, size, and feel. The Frogman feels like an expensive and meticulously designed piece of technology. It feels good on the wrist, and is remarkably comfortable for its size.
    2. Fashion. The iconic asymmetrical design is appreciated by everyone who like G-Shock as a brand. The bold design and colors make for a very desirable fashion piece.
    3. Collectibility/Exclusiveness. The Frogman is among the rarest and most prized G-Shocks. Any time a piece is rare (or even just uncommon), it is more highly valued. It's simple supply and demand.
    4. Features. Although you can get the same features for about 10-25% of the cost, it doesn't change the fact that a Frogman is incredibly useful. It has atomic timekeeping, solar charging, tide/moon graph, and dive time. The only feature that doesn't help me much is the dive timer.

It depends on what you're comparing them to. If you use "regular" Gs as the comparison, like 5600, 6900, 7900, etc, you can easily see why a Frog is more expensive. But if you compare a Frog to a King, 9300 and even a Gulfman, the price hike on the Frog is way less justifiable.

Say what you say, you're paying for the hype. I L-O-V-E my Frogs and the whole concept behind them, but they are overpriced.
    Cheers!

Spoken like a true diver, I've never been diving with my Frog - infact I don't wear digitals to dive with at all - I have 2 rules when diving; Automatic Mechanical wristwatch and nothing Suunto.

I brought my Frog because it looks and feels like the best digital watch you can buy. Build quality alone is a cut above, if you're going to collect watches with a reputation for being tough then surely you have to own the toughest?

I'm afraid my choice is nothing particularly exotic or farkled, my trusty SKX009 spends probably unfair amount of its life in the cold murky British waters. Great watch, tough as an old boot and with lume that will hurt your eyes. Everything the budding diver needs.

I do secretly covet a Sub but couldn’t possibly justify over £4000 on something that will get knocked about, anyone who dives will tell you that it’s a rough sport.

Please tell me, I'm dying to know, what's "farkled", I like that word and want to use it in conversation.
