    early Glycine Venus 170 Chrono

Ran into it in ebay, never saw one before, even though is possible, but not with this re-dial.

The earlier dials signed Glycine were using some other character fonts, like the most below one. What do you think? Is that a fake after market dial or legit?

I'm no expert at vintage Glycines, but the number font on the first picture does look fairly consistent with the current Airman.
For example, the 4, 7, 8, and 9, which the fakes usually get wrong, do look right. I don't like the look of the large 9 (too round), but the rest look OK.

I don't know much about vintage Glycines either, so I probably shouldn't comment, but something about this one seems fake? Possible to send a photo to Glycine perhaps and ask them?

Glycine unfortunately does not have not much data about their vintage timepieces. Dont know how true but read that one member here wrote to them and had as correspondence that their archieves were flooded once a time and that they don't know:S don't know how true, but never got some feedback for my 70s Diver Glycine from them.

The way that the dial signed is disturbing me in this piece above, I have seen enough vintage pieces but never with that print, the characters somehow are a bit gothic in their old dials.Looks like was made in South America where they generate/franken/fake a lot of vintage pieces( not all South American ! ).

I have the same opinion. Look at the sellers other items are strange movements.

Hi, I'm a new Italian user. I do not speak English very well.

I want to share with you photos of this watch, the same as the one in this topic.

Link of Great Italian Forum Orologi&passioni

    Glycine Chronograph '40 - page 2

I can not upload photos to this site.

Opinions? You see new details to make an assessment?

    Remember the German Ebay seller?

I bought this watch from an Italian seller. I want to ask questions about the first seller.
    Does anyone remember?

    Thank you.

    Congratulations for the great forum!

Re: early Glycine Venus 170 Chrono

Hello Diego, welcome to WUS and Glycine sub-forum.Since I started this thread back 6 months ago I felt like obliged to reply :)

I have no idea about the seller, since it was a post from 6 months ago I dont remember anything from the ebay sales. However, since than, on my behalf I learned more about Glycine. The link you gave looks like the same watch I posted above. Certainly it is a re-dial, meaning the dial has been re-painted. About being Glycine, I believe it is a Glycine. I believe before repainting the dial the older Glycine mark on dial was a bit visible and they just re-wrote it stronger. If they would have the opportunity they would have written ' Breitling' or 'Gallet' to make it more valueable for non WIS. Since there are no movement shots we won't be ale to write about it.Anyway its a generic Venus 170 movement known also as up and down chrono.
    Hope this helps.

Re: early Glycine Venus 170 Chrono

There are thousands of cobbled together "authentic" watches coming out of the Ukraine being sold on eBay. These sellers are nothing more than con artists. They put a newly printed dial of their own creation into an old watch and then market it as some sort of valuable timepiece. Most astounding about this is that their feedback scores are very good, which really indicates who their customer base is, buyers without any experience or knowledge in vintage watches. Sometimes you'll see these fakes being re-sold (I expect that the people selling them have finally figured out that they had been suckered into buying a frankenwatch). The entire thing makes me sick.

I'm not saying that this is the case with the Glycine chronograph pictured here, but knowing who was selling it would have helped determine the watch's originality. Whenever you see a vintage time piece with a pristine dial and it's a model that you've never seen before, you had better exercise caution if you're considering buying it. And if that watch is coming out of the Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Bulgaria, or even Israel, you might as well assume it's fake and work your way backward to prove that it's the real deal. Too many watch buyers are being ripped off; thankfully for those people, most will never even realise it. But someday they'll pass those watches on to a grandchild with a tale about it being the real deal and the market will be flooded with these fake watches.

Re: early Glycine Venus 170 Chrono

Zyk1on, Uwe w., thank you for your attention.

You think it's a dial reprinted? Or false?

This judgment is not explained, what are the theories that confirm this judgment?
In the Italian forum do not criticize this watch.
An Italian proverb says: Between saying and doing, in the middle there is the sea ..

    Do you understand?

I'm talking about facts, not words.

Explain what does not work in this watch.

    I would be grateful!

    kindly

    Diego

    :)

    Universal saying:

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, it must be a duck.

    Above mentioned watch:

It is a re-painted dial. The movement Venus 170, is a caliber from the 1940's. Supposedly 70 years old. A well aged and untouched dial from that era would look like this one below:
