    Cool Another generic watch recommendation...

Hey folks...looking to dive in and buy my first "nice" watch, and this is what I'm in the market for...between $800 & $1800; auto (preferably); 39-43mm; 100m-300m water resistance; black, blue, or silver face...the ones I'm looking at now are:

    Longines Hydroconquest Automatic
    Oris Divers Date Automatic
    Tag Aquaracer Quartz
    Hamilton Khaki Automatic
    Breitling Colt Quartz

I'm very active: fly-fishing, hiking, skiing, world traveling, scuba diving, etc., and would like a watch that I can wear 7 days a week...will not be abusing this watch, as some people at other watch sites have assumed, so please no recommendations of buying a "beater & a dress watch"...please feel free to comment on any or all watches listed above, or recommend something else you might think I'd be interested in based upon my criteria & above-listed watches...

    Thanks!
    Anthony

You could get a used Bathys 100 Fathoms with an ETA 2892-2 auto movement for around what you want to spend. They're rugged (they put one in molten lava and it still works), and good looking.

My turn to get the popcorn!

    -T
    Benzinger Custom Skeletonized Star movement.

So what difference does it make, whether it's 20 minutes or 20 years, since neither amounts to the faintest echo of the tiniest whisper in the thunder of time.

You may also consider to buy the Wristwatch Annual which categorizes watches according to their retail price.
Flick through and go for the watch you like best. Or go for one of the 5 watches you mentioned. All nice.

Youve got a great list of watches there. Ive owned three of the five, the Longines Hydro, the Tag aquaracer, and the Hamilton. All three are great pieces that will work with any of the activities that you mentioned. I would however recomend that you look into some chronographs as well. They can come in handy sometimes in outdoor activities. With your price range you will find lots of chronos that are very nice watches to throw in the mix. Pretty much all of the models that you listed have a chrono model too and they should still stay within your budget. Have fun looking because I will say that the hunt is a big part of the thrill of watch collecting, so be patient and pick one that really seems like the right one. Let us know which direction you decide to go and also I must warn you that it is mandatory that you post pictures of any newly aquired watch
