Battery life... whats the longest lasting watch battery one can buy?

Just what the title asks :)

I'll be more specific: for an analog timepiece with a quartz movement.

High End Quartz (HEQ) is your ticket.

Seiko 8F movement family (8F32, 8F33, 8F35, 8F56) have batteries that last between 7-10 years. These movements are not thermocompensated, however, and in order to achieve the -/+ 20 sec per year spec, the watch must be worn daily at least 12 hours per day.

Grand Seiko HEQ 9F movement family has 10 year batteries.

Citizen "The Citizen" Chronomaster with the HEQ thermocompensated A660 movement (-/+ 5 secs per year) has also a 10 year battery.

None of these watches are imported and sold by Seiko or Citizen in the USA. They are Japan domestic market only but either Seiya, Higuchi or Chino will be happy to hook you up.

The cheapest of all of these are the Seiko 8F family in the sub US$500 price bracket. All the others are high end semi-exotic pieces that can set you back between US$2,000 and US$4,000.

From the Swiss you will have Breitling and Omega super quartz but I am not sure as to the battery life rating on those models.

That was a very informative post and basically answered ANOTHER question I was going to ask in the future haha

I meant actual watch batteries for normal quartz watches that are analog! :)

After getting the answer for HEQ, here's your answer for low-end:
As a rule of thumb with an average low-cost analog quartz watch the battery should last 3 years. Less on a chronograph if the chronograph functions are used frequently.

There are a number of quartz movements available with 3 vdc lithium batteries. these batteries can last up to ten years.

The Ronda 715L and ETA quartzes with a 6 in the 4th position of the number.

I think the OP's question is not about a specific watch or movement, but rather the "actual" battery that is used to power the watch. IE: What brand/type of battery lasts the longest in a typical/standard analog quartz watch?

This is kinda hard to say since actual usage of the watch (how often you use the light and other functions) will make a great difference. That said....
My perception is that the Japanese batteries are best. I've seen some Matsushita batteries last an astoundingly long time, though I'm not sure they're still making them. Renata and Energizer button cells do quite well so really, as long as you stick to a brand name, you should be fine.
