    Can These 'dings' Be Fixed?

Got this Sinn 656 on a trade for a good 'price'. The guy told me it was in excellent condition, but upon receipt, well, judge for yourself.

I knew it would not be perfect and I was getting the watch without papers/box which doesn't matter to me, but in trying to trade the watch (it's just too small for me), two guys have turned it down because of the dings you'll see in the pics.

My question to you WIS is can these dings be buffed out, about how much is the cost and is it worth it? The watch works great, just looks used. Doesn't bother me, but....

I'm currently trying to trade the watch for something in the 500-600 range... is 'fixing' it going to get me another 30%? 50%?

    Thanks in advance! :thanks

    Respectfully,
    Paul

I don't think fixing it will get you another 30+%. The dings on the top side most likely won't fully come out. The caseback should be able to be returned to an almost new state. This is just an opinion though.

IMO, the dings are too deep to be repairable, especially the ones on the edges of the case and bezel. Also, the watch has a bead-blasted finish which will have to be reblasted completely if anything were to be done.

It looks like another Sean U1 project.

I hear you.. although it was on a different site and the guy gave me three days to send it back... It was my first Sinn, though, and I was pretty excited about it and I actually like my watches a bit 'dinged' up, or at least don't mind it.

Anyway, received a 657 about a week later with the same "excellent" rating from a WUS member (suddha) and it was better than described - basically brand new.

Now I might be stuck with this one.. or at least lose money on it... Tried to give it to my wife and she said it was "HUGE"... LOL. It's in my case next to my Enzo.

I guess 'huge' is a relative term..

It would make a heck of a beater watch. Sorry to hear you got hosed on the deal.

The dings and scratches are deep and even though scratches on a flat surface can be removed i would not recommend it because the watch surface will have to be re-patterned...the dings on the case and bezel are too deep to be removed completely.

I go with SlipKid, it is a fantastic beater watch. Folks who know the brand and know its top notch quality, will cringe when they see you smacking it around. In fact how about a sub post of things deep should do with the watch. Of course you could always give it to Sean and let him have at it. When you got it back, character would be its middle name.

In the mean time if you have a pin and collar type bracelet, how about hammering in the pins with the Sinn?

How about some other helpful hints for Deep?

Excellent?????!!!! Excuse me? Please let us know who this was so we don't ever trust their valuation of anything.

You could have the watch refinished, which will not return it to a like new state, but which should get reduce the appearance of the scars. If you opt for a more aggressive bead blast instead of the more pearled finish Sinn uses, you might not be able to see many of them without looking closely.

As for adding 30% to the value? No. You've been hosed. Period. Unless you can do the work yourself, there's no way that you will get more value out of it than you put it.

Keep it, refinish it if you want to, and keep it as a beater. Nothing like having a hell of a nice tool watch as a beater.

Give it to Sean? For his dishwasher?? I don't think so!

So, the bottom line from you guys is that it really isn't worth trying to clean up.

I think the watch is awesome, just too small... Almost all of my other ones are divers. Even have a Schaumburg on the way. I am going to Germany this summer, could bring it when I visit Sinn..
