casual luxury sports watches that are non genta designs

i have needed a sports watch for a decade now but i keep on buying dressy/ elegant watches. i do have a couple of cartier santos watches one in an octagon/ royal oak shape and another regular one in two tone. these are my only watches on a bracelet despite living in a hot and humid climate. so far i'm kinda liking the yachtmaster I.

    overall my criteria:
40 mm (i have smaller/ average wrists so if 42mm it has to sit well on it)
w/ bracelet (must look better w/ bracelet than on a strap)
    stainless steel
not so tool/ instrument watch looking (sinn, sea dweller, submariner)
non genta designs (royal oak, nautilus, overseas, ingeneur)
prefer grey/ white face over black but won't mind black if there's no white/grey on an awesome watch

The Omega Seamaster AT 8500, Chopard L.U.C. Sport/Pro One and Girard-Perregaux Classic Elegance ref. 49570 come to mind (for me, anyway).
    Collection:
A few of this and some of the other ...

I would suggest the Glashutte Original Sport Evolution. I have seen it with a silver face at several ADs but curiously it does not appear on GO's website.

Some good suggestions so far. Let me add the Glashütte Original Senator series - they can be more casual on a bracelet or dressy on a strap. You can fill the need for a sports watch and still satisfy the urge to keep buying dress watches. You could also look at Omega's Speedmaster 3211.30 if you don't mind a chronograph. Zenith makes some nice El Primero chronographs at 40 mm like the Chronomaster or Elite 3 hand (some with complications like a power reserve or moonphase).

    ps - I like the Yacht-master too.

the sport evo seems to be a good contender for the YM. it is 42mm though so i have to try it in person. the breguet marine i remember trying and it was 40 mm only but it looked huge.

The new Ingenieur is not a Genta design anymore. Kind of loosely based on one because it's round but that's about it.

I think the YM is pretty ideal. Looks swell on your hand, if that is your hand. ;)

The JLC Reverso Gran Sport is also a sweet watch. And have you seen the Seiko SBGE001 GMT Springdrive? Super nice!

I also like the discontinued IWC GST series.

And the Panerai on a steel bracelet definitely looks smashing, too.

And what about a Breitling Airwolf with Sunburst dial and superquartz movement? Very elegant sports watch, a real sparkler, if you want that rather than a sinister tool.

ym is not mine btw. so far i do not own a sport watch yet.

i did not know they discontinued the gst. if i remember they were designed to be just that. a simple sports watch. will look at that line now that you bring it up.

i guess iwc made pilots luxury watches with the mark series and the big pilot. on the silvery side of things what about the spitfires? chrono, utc, simple time and date.

I believe the GST is discontinued. Who knows? I might be wrong. But it's still available at very attractive prices. The version I like particularly well is the perpetual calendar chrono from the Da Vinci. It's about the nicest caliber encased in a steel case and the cheapest PC-Chrono I know of. Comes with a white dial, too, and the bracelet is a beauty.

I didn't mention the pilot's watches because I thought you'd find that too tool and not jewel enough. Worth a look. But the finish on those is nothing special compared to the others mentioned.

For wrist size it's up to your own judgment of course but the rule of wrist is as long as there is no lug overhang it's OK. So measure your wrist top, not just the circumference of your wrist. Watches up to 15mm will still fit under a sleeve usually. Above that it can get difficult.

Did you check that Seiko I mentioned. You might find it too big, though, but it's one heck of nice watch.

The Panerais exist in 40mm versions, too.

If there is a Zenith on a strap that you like and El Primero chrono would be a very fine choice for any collection.

Personally, I think it's a bit of db (showercarrytool) watch but the Rolex Milgauss would also fit the description. The new Explorer I doesn't look as good as the old one so now might be a good time to scoop up the old model at a good price. It's one hell of a watch. One of the most perfect designs of all time, if you ask me. The new one is not as balanced (hands too small for example).

    Cheers,

    Till
