Great forum, it has popped up on my search engine several times as i'm doing research to buy a watch.
My goal was simple, to replace my Invicta 9937. Little did I know that that would be impossible now. I owned that watch a few years ago and I accidentally left it somewhere, don't know where. So I have been without a watch for a couple of years.
That watch was perfect, not a blemish on it. Got plenty of compliements. She see-through caseback was cool conversation starter. Now the new models have a differenty-colored weight on the back; gray instead of gold. So that's one step down right there. Another is that the glass is no longer Sapphire Crystal. Now I don't have any experience with luxury watches; that's just not in my budget. I do, however, have experience with cheap ones, and for me they're not worth it. I ALWAYS end up scratching the glass. When i bought the 9937 it was mostly bc it was an "affordable" watch with Sapphire. And the truth is in the time i had it, I didn't put a single scratch on that glass, it was as good as the day it was new. I'm never going back to anything but sapphire.
Fast forward to present day; i'm in the store looking at Invictas and see the back said "Flame Fusion". I immediately smelled ********. The sales person couldn't help explain it to me but later THIS FORUM helped confirm my suspicions, that Invicta is was de-contenting its products. I also looked to see if I could find the similar but slightly larger 4469, but I simply can't find this watch.
I'm now really looking at getting a Citizen Radio-Controlled perpetual. Model CB0020-50E.
Pros versus Invicta 9937c (same as 9937ob)...
Sapphire versus FlameFusion
Never have to set time
Never have to change date on short months.
Don't have keep using every day in order to maintain "power"
Easy to use double pushbutton clasp release.
More modern look
Cons versus Invicta 9937c (same as 9937ob)...
Less classic look.
Doesn't have see-through back, which is a cool conversation starter.
No rotating bezel, which admittedly i only used twice, but either way is "entertaining"
Not sure if battery will have lower chance of needing work than the automatic.
If anyone can opine on these points, I'd appreciate it, especially with regard to the expected probability that the EcoDrive's battery will at some point make the watch not worth keeping.
