Hey Chris! Nice to see you around these parts again.

As far as the durability of the SARB015 and 017, they feel totally bombproof IMHO. Very solid case, both crowns feel very sturdy, especially the threading on the main one. I would take my Alpinist on a multi day backpacking trip if I didn't have another watch. If I had only my 033 I would have to use the sun to find the time .

I hope that you like the Everest, and that you consider the Alpinist if you find that you are looking for something other than the Smiths!

    Cheers,

Hey Guys! Smiths Everest has arrived... too big to give me a true feel of the 36mm Explorer, but an AWESOME piece! I will see if I can snap some more pics soon.

I've been looking at the Smiths Everest for a while and I'll probably get it when the website will let me when they re-open on Monday! I couldn't picture it on anything but the braclet but yours looks good and having seen it like that I think brown leather would look good too. Really does look like a versatile watch.

Yeah. That's actually annoying because now I'm going to have to make a decision on what strap to wear it with!

Yeah... I'm thinking 1016 would be the one I would really like to own someday... before they got 'shiney'. I did see an excellent condition 114270 the other day at Timeless and Dan had a VERY reasonable price on it. I just still think vintage is going to have that tougher look, with the matte dial and less shiney bits etc....

OK.... have had the watch for about a week and half now.... the Smith Everest. This is a really fine timepiece! It wears very nicely on both leather and nylon straps. It is DEFINATELY a larger piece compared to the Explorer I, but I knew that going in. The dial is AWESOME. I love the simple look and easy readability. I can look down in a quick glance and have no trouble picking up the time. Screw down crown is a nice addition and adds to the overall quality feel of the watch. At first, I thought I may prefer a swiss movement instead of the Miyota, but as many of you know, this movement is bombproof! Only gaining a few seconds a day and couldn't ask for more out of a watch at this price point. The crystal is the crowning touch of this piece and is what ultimately sets it apart from a style stand point! You really have to watch the acrylic because it attracts many a scratch, but the raised crystal really give it a 'vintage' feel.

What are the downsides? Size is great, but still a little bulky. I find myself taking it off during the day to give my wrist a rest, not that its heavy or overly large, just big enough where I notice that it's there! I also have not found the right band look to wear with a t-shirt and flip flops... Maybe it's because the case has more polish to it, not sure, but it just isn't as versatile as I first thought it would be. In addition, it just doesn't work with the steel bracelet for me! Again, I can't quite put my finger on it, but something seems to be missing when I have it on the bracelet!

Will keep you guys updated on thoughts!! So far, my grail focus has stayed on the Explorer I 1016. BUT, I am starting to do a little more research into Ball Watches. I have owned a Fireman II, and found the re-hought too deep for my liking. Looking more at the Arabic or maybe the Ohio, but don't see any brushed finishes. Love the look though....
