Every 100 post = New Watch, Right?

I don't know if I should adopt this type of "rewards" system as I just eclipsed my 200 post. Every 100 post = new watch(sadly it's been every 20 postings).

Gotta justify this hobby(or sickness) somehow...

What are some other stupid(or not so stupid) things you guys tell yourselves?

Haha ... if I adopt that criteria, I should start posting a fair bit less

I'll definitely give myself a big "gift" when I'm done with my PhD ... *whew*

My criteria for buying a new watch: "oh, shiny!", a quick check of the funds available, and BANG!

Okay, it used to be like that. Now there is no real reason, but tons of research and patience.

    ....most times.

I've been too "itchy-trigger-fingered" as of late. Seven watches in less than 2 months is a really slippery slope for me. Help, I've fallen down and can't get back up!

    Snap I'm two watches behind!!!!

Seriously though, I'm going a different route since I recently started a business... I set financial goals for the business and when I hit them I get big watches. So far it has kept the spending at bay, but I'm getting really itchy!!!

I've thought about getting myself a nice watch-gift for my first published paper. I think we'll see what sort of reviews it gets first.
Watches: Rolex Air King 114200; DOXA 1000T Project Aware (75/92); Hamilton Khaki Automatic; Seiko SKX013K1 Diver's 200M; Shearwater Research Predator; Suunto M5; Tissot PRS200; Generic Swiss Military; Jorg Gray 6500 "Obama Watch"

I think a lovely Omega Aqua Terra Seamaster with the 8500 or a Chopard L.U.C. Sport with the wonderful caliber 4.96 will be just the right amount of motivation to push through the pain to get done.

Hmm ... which do you think would be a better choice? Or, neither?

Beats me, and I'm a serial flipper. I'll have to check, but I think this month has been 2 out and 2 in (still awaiting those arrivals). Last month was about the same.

I would go with the omega Aqua Terra 8500 - that is an absolutely stunning watch to behold. Very classy, subdued but not overly stuffy. I think it's the perfect watch for a newly minted academic.

I totally agree. Despite the flashy caseback and the ornate movement (completely justified, given the technical marvel the 8500 is), the case, hands and dial are wonderfully understated, elegant in a timeless manner and totally classy. The watch almost seems to have a dual nature, a wolf in sheep's clothing, as it were.
