    Fortis Spacematic ECO

Discovered a Fortis Spacematic ECO Day Date at a local store selling for 499.00 with original price of 1250.00.

What does ECO stand for? and not knowing that much about this brand,do you guys think that this is a deal?

It's a Fortis with autoquartz movement, I don't think they produce that model anymore.
Works sort of like a Seiko Kinetic, an oscilating weight powers a capacitor that saves the energy to give the movement a few weeks power.
The price is reasonable for a new watch, but not spectecular.
Íf you are looking for an automatic, this is not it.

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers,

    Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!

    Re: Fortis Spacematic ECO

    Borrowed from Fortis' webpage:

The advantages of the automatic winding for a mechanical movement combined with the precision of the quartz control system, are employed in the SPACEMATIC ECO.

The functioning is very economical – it transforms kinetic energy on the wrist of the person wearing the watch into electrical energy for the operation of the movement. In the center of the movement there is a rotor activating a micro-generator, which reaches at least 15,000 turns per minute. The generator produces electric energy and stores it in an accumulator. The highly precise quartz provides the control signals for the stepping motor of the watch. Fully wound up [Rem: They really write wound up], the power reserve may last for at least 100 days.
And Daddel is right, also to my knowledge this model is discontinued. Though it is still on the Fortis webpage, it is neither listed by Fortis USA nor by Fortis Hong Kong.
