"Help me buy a watch" threads...

should get their own forum. Sub-forums could be; 'help me buy shoes," "help me buy a shirt," "help me buy underwear."

Don't you guys have wives or girlfriends to make decisions for you?

I've never understood those threads. I always have a list of about a dozen watches I know I want. You don't know what you want? You need to spend more time glued to the internet.

I don't understand threads like these where all you do is complain.

Agreed. It's not like the forum is overrun with "help me find a watch" threads anyways. Seriously, what's wrong with asking other watch geeks for suggestions anyways?

I think those threads are useful, not only for the OP, but for all of us, as we are shown watches we might have not known about.

Opinions and suggestions on watches is what the forum is all about. If I let my g/f choose my watches I'd have a box full of blinged out two-tone quartz Raymond Weils and the like.

I don't think the "dis or dat" threads are especially annoying. I find the responses to be exceptionally annoying however because everyone always suggests the same old watches. Hamilton, Omega POs, Monsters, and G-Shocks. It is the same monotonous litany of watches. Last I looked there were a couple of hundred manufacturers and a couple of thousand different watch models. Then when you throw in vintage, you have quite a universe of options. And all anyone can come up with is a dozen suggestions. I mean some people try at least, but even in those cases they many times suggest the same one over and over again.

That is what I find boring and obnoxious.
    Benzinger Custom Skeletonized Star movement.

So what difference does it make, whether it's 20 minutes or 20 years, since neither amounts to the faintest echo of the tiniest whisper in the thunder of time.

I think those threads aren't so bad, you learn something and in turn you can also share what you've learned.
Pretty monotonous and boring but nevertheless still informative.

I think those threads serve an essential function to the forum. It allows for budding (and existing) collectors to interact and share information. It also lets people to give each other suggestions that would otherwise be overlooked.

On the other hand, I think we should have less threads in which people complain about other threads.

You forgot one. I could start a thread asking for suggestions on a quartz chronograph with sapphire crystal and 100m WR and someone would still likely throw a Speedy Pro up as the best choice.
