IWC PORTUGUESE
TAG HEUER 1887
WIS Handbook, Chapter 1, Rules 1 and 2:
1. Tag Heuer never wins a poll. Should a member feel the need to express the desire to own one, he or she may be subject to ridicule and be ostracized.
2. Omega wins all polls. Should Omega not be mentioned as a selectable option, it is highly suggested that you still recommend the polling member purchase an Omega, preferably a Speedmaster with hesalite crystal to add extra character and a certain warmess to the dial.
Thought for the day:
how come all of the stories told on the forums always seem to show much better the story teller is than the other people in the story?
I would certainly go for the IWC, no doubt. But, what matters is which you prefer and which feels best on your wrist.

Please stop with the nonsense. There were no chronograph wrist watches before Heuer in 1963, and IWC started making The Portuguese in the 1930's. When anyone sees a chrono with those arabic numerals they think IWC, not TAG. IWC owns that look. Hamilton and TAG are two of several to recently launch homages.
My vote goes to the Tag. I mean it's a beauty.. They both are but the Tag is a far better watch is you ask me. Get the Tag, you won't regret it.
That's plain wrong. There were plenty of chronograph wristwatches (manual wind) starting from the 1920s - various movements by UG/Martel, Zenith, Angelus, Landeron, Lemania, Longines, Minerva, Venus, Valjoux, etc. The first three automatics were out in 1969 (Seiko, Buren/Hamilton/Heuer/Breitling combine and Zenith), but Heuer has been using manual wind chronograph movements mainly from Venus and Valjoux since the 1940s, about the same time that Breitling started making them.
The IWC Portuguese was a manual wind dress watch in the 1930s with an unusually large case for its time (with a PW movement), drunken monkey is right, the chronograph didn't come out till the 1990s.
