    Jorg Hysek

The other day a non WIS friend, knowing that (in his words) "I like watches" mentioned that he was about to pull the trigger on a Jorg Hysek watch. To be more specific a fairly simple Kilada model, automatic, black dial, SS case. The price of the thing was way more expensive than what I ever thought it would be. A bit more than 3 grand.

Has any of you had any experience with the brand?

I must confess that before he mentioned it, I had never heard of the man nor the brand. After looking a little on the internet I found out that supposedly Mr. Hysek designed for a few brands before setting up his own operation. Other than this I have zero info. Does anybody know why his pieces comand this kind of price? What kind of movement do they use? Is this hand made?

    Thanks for your help.

'Overpriced' gets tossed around a lot around here, this one qualifies.

I couldn't find much information about Mr. Hysek but I would say his pieces fall into the category of "fashion watches". I'm assuming your friend values watches as aesthetic pieces, accessories if you will, but for $3k he could buy something handsome as well as clever, something made of a precious metal with an in-house movement.

Andrew, you are absolutely right. His primary consideration is aesthetics. The truth is that the guy never tried to "sell" the brand or the watch, claiming that it was this or that. He liked the watch, had the money for it and was about to get it (he might have on the wrist by now). He told me because he just knew that I would be more interested than others.
After that my curiosity took over, especially when it's a brand that I couldn't find anything in WUS other than their products for sale.

Well... as it is usually said in the forum you have to buy a watch that speaks to you and I guess that's exactly what my friend did. Can't argue too much about that one...

    Thanks for the input guys.

    Cheers

I am proven thoroughly wrong. I didn't do enough research on Hysek and I overlooked his incredible résumé. The man has references with Rolex, Vacheron Constantin, and Breguet just to name a few. He has especially won awards in the field of design even though I find his watches far too chintzy. Still, I give respect where it's due.

    Ok.
So it is not a fashion brand, that much is absolutely clear.
I am still clueless about the brand in general. Does anybody own one of his watches?
How long has he been designing (under his own brand)? What's the track record?

I talked to my friend, who has finally bought the piece, and he is pretty much clueless about the watch, he basically bought it because he liked it. ...anyway I' am rambling, the only thing he was able to tell me is that the movement was COSC certified. He seems to remember the guy in the store (a jewelery not specialized in watches) said something regarding the movement being hand made. He is not sure and the clerk could have just giving him a sales pitch without really knowing. Dunno. Does anybody know?

Any extra information will be appreciated. I am genuinely curious

Hysek watches are well made and have very interesting designs. They have not been popular in Asia and have seen liquidation here at low prices, up to 1/3 off the original price.

The models I am familiar with can be found here:

I very nearly bought the silver dialed chrono at the top of the page.

The newer lines are very different from these as can be seen in the other links here.
