Maurice Lacroix Watch, Pawn Shop? Thoughts, opinions?

Hey guys never heard of this brand until I saw this at a pawn shop, looks like they make some very nice watches. I really liked the look of it and at $65 I figured I couldn't go wrong. It has 18k solid screws and crown, the rest is stainless. Sapphire crystal. Quartz operated (which I'm not crazy about) needs a new battery as it's not running. I feel like this had to be worth at least $65 hopefully as I've never owned a watch with 18k gold anything, even if its a minuscule amount lol. What do you guys think? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!! I got 7 days for a full return.

Not a bad deal, but the screws are most likely Gold capped.

Interesting, I really don't think they're gold capped however, I saw a similar watch here and they listed it as having 18k gold screws and the bracelet gold is plated... https://www.parkersjewellers.co.uk/m...rtz-69709.html I think it was a decent enough purchase for $65. Still interested in anymore opinons or thoughts!

I cannot comment on ther gold plated screws.

However, I like Maurice Lacroix (I own 3 and my brother owns 1) as they have fantastic designs. Sure your watch and design shows its age. All that matters is if your like it or not.

If I were you I would get some quotes of the costs of a sparkling case polishing. You should also check if the clasp mechanism is still working fully because sourcing a new original bracelet will be near impossible and an aftermarket leather strap will hardly fit due to the special lug design.

Well I contacted Maurice Lacroix about this watch asking about the 18k. According to this thread from awhile ago seems like this specific watch isn't worth much, if anything... Maurice Lacroix - which model??? oh well

What would you have thought the watch is worth?

Depending on the pawn shop of course and if people there are specialised in dealing with watches: those people working at pawn shops are not stupid and often know their trade; if the watch would have value they would never have let it go with a $65 price tag.

One buys a ML because he likes the design. It is very unlikely that a ML will add collector-value over time.

Just enjoy the watch. You will never find a $65 watch in a pawn shop that will make you rich.

What did I think it might be worth? At least a little over 100 lol to be honest. I usually deal in vintage watches don't have too many modern watches. I do like the design of this watch for sure and the bracelet clasp does work nicely. I'll probably end up keeping it given it works with a new battery, if for some reason it doesn't work back it goes for sure. If anything it was nice to learn about a new brand I hadn't known of yet!

if you like it you'd pay whatever you think its worth (be it $65 or $200), but if you're buying it for the gold or anything else like brand name then you probably should'nt bother especially that its got scratches like a cat's scratchboard and no battery which is $10-20 or so (at least that's what they charged me in Australia to change a battery on a Nautica)...

Hit the nail on the head. I used to troll the local pawns/gold shops but deals are few and far between. If anything, a lot of luxury pieces are way overpriced especially given that many have been polished by amateurs/missing links/no box. The best deals that I have been able to find have been a Seiko Arnold for under a hundred and a King Seiko for about two hundred. Both in working condition.
Buy what you like and not just the deal!

Thanks for the info guys! I really do like the watch and am probably keeping it. Not sure what the pictures show but the watch really isn't scratched up bad at all, 8.5-9/10 condition honestly. I guess when I bought this watch I thought the brand was going to be a little more collectible, I was kind of comparing it to Longines or Tag Heuer quartz models...?
