Good post, it's well written and looks well researched.

Raises the interesting question of what constitutes a "military watch"...

Really ? Imho this post is just scratching the surface and foreseeing a "trend" for 2014 does not surprise, since 10 years there is a growing demand for PILMIL watches. Has been a trend for years now.

As someone who isn't in the military or a pilot and doesn't like to misrepresent himself, I know nothing about this style of watch. So yes, I found the post informative.

I have been seeing more about amongst the younger fashionable population, so would agree that they're becoming more trendy in that way.

My Damasko on a NATO (probably Bond) was noticed by an in fashion 18 year old university student who asked whether it was an MWC and said it had the same strap.

I would say the 'modern' military styled watches are simply as you say 'cashing in 'on a market that has ALWAYS been strong - it is not a new phenomena- there is a difference between a 'fashion ' military watch and a true military piece that was designed for purpose in the field perhaps in a time when timepieces were not regarded as fashionable accessories [imo]

Mike, yes this is really only military watch lite, just a dusting of the surface, and these aren't even the more serious and less well known military watch brands, I may cover them in more depth another time. This was just to point out that while military watches have always been popular, they are now being taken up by both micro and main stream brands and definitely on trend.
