    Monta Watches Just Got Cheaper

According to their Instagram feed, Monta watches is cutting the prices of their new watches (skyquest and triumph) by 50%. They are doing this, in part, by switching from Eterna movements to ETAs. Not sure what this means for the Oceanking.

The quality of the finishing on these makes them a competitor with the German brands in my opinion. Think Tudor quality at Tissot or Sinn prices.

    What do you all think?

I think it is a marketing ploy. The movement change alone would not cut the cost in half. They appear to be good watches, but they are charging a premium and not selling many as far as I can tell. That is the real reason, you can't charge a premium with no history.

When I come across brands I've never heard of in these threads, I like to go check them out. So what's the deal with their website? It makes it look like the Oceanking is their only product. Anyone have a link to their full collection?

I agree with above. Overpriced and not moving stock so dropping price and covering via a marketing ploy.

I think less a marketing ploy, and more a change in business plan. I bet they went to Baselworld, realized they were priced too high and decided to cut their margins back.

I think the new prices show value.

Re: Monta Watches Just Got Cheaper

Call me an old grouch or a skeptic.... but when I see 5 "non-sponsored" reviews within a span of 2-3 months, all raving about a relatively unknown microbrand (priced at level of Tudor despite having none of history, reputation or credentials), and all providing extensive write-ups... I am losing faith in "objectivity" and "independence" of watch blogs\review-sites

Either there was a huge marketing push with watches given out in exchange for positive reviews (at best) or paid advertisements posing as non-ads (at worst) OR every "contributor" to multiple watch and non-watch related sites\blogs suddenly decided to review the same unknown brand, with access to multiple models, movement shots, and uniform praise for a brand new microbrand selling diver watches (and others) at $3.5K pricepoint....

    Monta Watches Just Got Cheaper

I like the ocean king, the reviews all around have been positive but as many have pointed out the price is simply too much for a completely unknown brand....who will drop 3.5 k on a Monta Oceanking when you can get a Tudor BB for 2800 bucks ? ????

Too expensive with the new Eterna caliber; too uninteresting with an ETA 2824. I do not believe the price difference between the Eterna 39 and a Top or even Elabore Grade ETA accounts for 50% of the retail price. No way.
