    the movt. timeline project

UUUppss sorry charts not available, will look like text for now until we finalize.

Since I am into watches & movements collecting I had in mind to make a chart for my reference and also to share and expand knowledge. I think there is no correct time for it, and I have to start somewhere.I am confident that it will help all watch collectors- starters to know which brand is coming from where or who they are.
I am offering to do it together here with our common knowledge. The idea is actually to have a timeline chart, where the manufacturers started their activities and than if they had some joint ventures with other manufacturers to make their timeline as one line, and/or if they were bought and melted in other manufacturers also to mention them, at the end I am imagining to have a chart as below:
    Dates are only as examples:
    1833 1847……………………1900……………………………………1950…………………………………….2 000……..2012
    Agassiz
    Longines

    Landeron_________________________________________
Valjoux___________________________________________ all became ETA ( Swatch Group )
    Venus____________________________________________
    Adolph Schild ( AS )_________________________________
    Felsa_____________________________________________

    Meylan,Glycine
    Leonidas,Heuer,Tag Heuer
    Kelek,Montbrillant,Breitling
    Buren,Hamilton
    Alpina
    Moeser
    Omega
    Tissot
    Audemars Piguet
    Rolex
    Tudor
    Vacheron & Constantin
    Patek Phiippe
    Zenith
    Seiko

These brands were some which I could remember at one glance and listed , which won't be limited to.I am aware it’s a big thing, mixed with the movement manufacturers and only the case and ebauche assemblers, and at the other hand some old wolfs in this industry that have been existing as they were created. I thing altogether we can shape it.
If you can write in your posts the connection and dates you know between brands, or how they are transformed or melted in other companies, I will accumulate all the data in a chart and will finalize it in this post.
My criterias are they should be mechanical movt. manufacturers or at least to have also mechanical watches, and even when they do not exist in the recent years, if they had serious contributions into horlogerie they should be listed.
Lets see how much data we can collect and how it look after some weeks.

    thank you...

    re: the movt. timeline project

I am thinking of short info with dates like this, so I can add comments in the excel chart within the timeline:

From 1899 to 1932, Buren was the Swiss factory of H. Williamson, Ltd. On March 1, 1966 Buren Watch Co. was acquired by the Hamilton Watch Co. and the Swiss factory became Buren Watch Hamilton. Production came to an end in 1971.In 1971, the Omega & Tissot Holding Company Société Suisse pour l'Industrie Horlogère (SSIH) purchased the Hamilton brand and utilized the Hamilton name for a number of branding efforts, including numerous quartz watches in the 1980s.
Through the enforced merger of SSIH and ASUAG Groups in 1984, Hamilton has become a subsidiary of the now denominated The Swatch Group Ltd..

Sorry to say, it's not a Watchuseek project - it's yours. So I had to edit out Watchuseek in your title.

    Good luck.

Btw: The Watch Museum Villingen-Schwenningen did a similar job for the period 1850-1980 only for german watches and ended up with a comprehensive overwiew of 680 pages.

sorry Mike for putting the name.Yes, I am aware its a big thing, thats why the more input from members the better, my knowledge is limited to the market and my wishlist with popular movt or watches and /or some web articles. I realized that its important to start and it can be expanded within time.
TK 421: the list is random, but when I was writing the brands i just added the ones which are or were related also to each other in some of them, just to give an idea what I have in mind
