Opened up a quartz, but its not a bad battery?

Hey all, this site has taken up all my free time the last 2 weeks, and now to make it worse I'm taking watches apart. Well not exactly. I went to change a battery on a non expensive Fossil watch that my brother gave me. I put in a new battery, but no movement, tried the new battery in another watch and the battery is fine. So, what can it be? The watch isn;t abused, is there anything I can look at to see if I can fix it? Can I replace the quartz movement? I know its not expensive, but I tend to be a little sentimental, and I never even wear the watch, but I'd like to see if I can get it working. Any info would be great, Thanks All, Grandeson.
PS, not impressed with quartz at all, looks like it's worth 50 cents!! Think I may have to venture into automatics. BE well all, and help me if you can.

Check if you have the correct battery. Check that you put it in the correct side up.

How old is the watch? Fossil watches have an 11-year warranty (unless it was bought at one of their ...... stores, in which case they have only a 1-year warranty). It might be easier to send it to them for repair than to fix it yourself. Since it was a gift, I'd at least explore that option to see what they can do for you.

Don't poo-poo all quartz watches - yes, some are pretty chintzy because they're trying to cater to current fashions (which at times seem all over the map), but there are many high-quality quartz models out there, even from Fossil (there are many here who hold their Zodiac models in very high regard).

Yeah, my brother who gave me the watch isnt the one to save a receipt for it. And I'm sure the style hasnt been out for 11 years, never mind 4 years, but I've heard that Fossil Customer service is horrible, but maybe I'll send it and give it a try. Who knows, but just ordered another quartz, Seiko SNA225, actually have that same movement in another Seiko and am happy with it. But next will be an automatic. Not a seiko 5 $200 auto, but a nice nice one, we'll see though.
