I am sure most of us here have a pita with post costs- no matter what size the package is the cost for registered mail is around $10 etc....for rapid postage we pay much more for EU UPS and FEDEX (which incur import duty etc.)


However, this one really puts inflated post costs in perspective:


I purchased a set of spring bars form a member in Southern Australia: he posted bars in a letter (normal post) on last Friday (3rd aug). The bars arrived here in Ireland today Tuesday 7th August. And it was a public holiday yesterday.


10,311 miles in 3 working days (- 1 day holiday)- that is impressive.

I like this one, not watch related.

I purchased a bike trainer from the UK on a Friday night in Australia, Friday morning UK.

A massive box showed up with the trainer 10am Monday Oz time, unbelievable, and it was free delivery and less expensive than anywhere else on the net.

Semi-cost related, but more about the handling of packages:

I purchased a vintage mechanical chronograph from South America. Shipped FedEx and arrived a day or two later... in a large FedEx mailing envelope. Not a bubble mailer or anything. The watch was not wrapped either! It must have been handled extremely well though because it arrived in great condition. It kept time and the chrono functions worked. :) From what I can tell it was cheaper than EMS that I usually get.


Later I flipped it and it was lost by USPS on the way to Australia.
