Um, I find it unlikely that in a city-state of over 5 million people you might know the buyer? Just saying...

I have no details on the buyer. It is an unusual watch, and a very popular sort of watch in the Far East. It is my Corum Admiral's Cup Rattrapant. I should hear back from him tomorrow, but references can be funny. I will also ask if he is a member of any watch forums. If he's got 3,000 posts on the SWX that would give me some comfort, but if he is not a member of any forum, I may not do this.

Any way to tell if a paypal payment is instant cash, as opposed to something else (like credit card, or some credit thing with paypal a buyer can use).

    Price deleted.

I'd hold out for another buyer. That's too many red flags.

Re: Q on sale to unknown buyer

If the guy is planning something weird, like saying he got an empty box, to then file a claim, or send funds that don't clear, then I don't think it matters who witnesses your packaging of the watch. I thought the same thing recently; I recently sold a pricey Montblanc pen on ebay, and didn't want to be bothered with any nonsense from a fraudulent seller. Fortunately, someone with hundreds of solid purchases won out in the end.

If you intend to sell the watch, try here, then maybe ebay/any other reputable way you feel confident selling, and getting paid. I think if you still send to this guy, who is kind of unknown, insist on a safe means you feel comfortable with.

And I hear that if you don't use ebay, paypal doesn't do much for you. And funds clear up to 21 days after shipment of the watch, if you don't buy the postage through paypal. He could transfer it to you instantly from his checking, as a gift free of fees, but making sure the funds legitimately clear is the key part.

That's a pretty expensive watch to sell to someone with no background or references. The only way I'd do it if I could transfer 100% of the risk to the buyer, and he was good with it.

Your FS post shows up on watchrecon, so the guy could have found you based off of a web search.

I think its a waste of time having a witness when you ship a watch. If you are not comfortable, just walk away from the deal.

Re: Q on sale to unknown buyer

All good advice. I appreciate all your comments.

I'll let you know what happens. This will be interesting. I'm not that desperate to sell the watch, but of course it would be nice do to so.

Re: Q on sale to unknown buyer

I've actually taken pictures at the post office with the girl holding the box showing that the watch is inside the watch box. Like others suggested, I'd insist on a bank wire.

Re: Q on sale to unknown buyer

I just told him I will only do it with a wire. We will see if I hear back.

Thank you all for your comments.
