Are there any advantages of mineral crystals over sapphire crystals?

For Hardlex, there is a good read on an external site that talks about Seiko Hardlex...not sure if I can post here. It talks about why they use hardlex in some models and sapphire in others. But in any case you will find on this site many Hardlex vs sapphire discussions.

Personally I have both and the crystal doesn't tip the scale when deciding to buy a watch.

Sapphire is more scratch resistant. I'm almost positive mineral crystal and plexi/acrylic are not the same. Plexi can be buffed and the scratches can be smoothed out. With quartz a scratch is staying there.

I was reading it as sapphire is plastic, because surely he didn't call the one containing the word "glass" something other than glass.

Mineral crystal = glass
Plexi = plastic......there is no sapphire reference here LM. Well that's my interpretation anyway.

I have no preference with either material. I own a TAG with mineral crystal which I wore daily for 10 yrs, no matter what I was doing. The piece appears to have been through a war with lots of damage, bezel gouged, chunk taken out of crown etc and the crystal,is completely scratch or blemish free. Both materials will scratch.
