I've been looking for a good video that illustrates how a mechanical movement works. Now I know! Very fascinating 10 minutes. I think it was made by Hamilton.

Great video! Probably the clearest and best explanation I've seen yet. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the link. Very helpful and informative.
If you look in the Vintage forum, then the sub-forum we have a couple more videos posted from Hamilton. It's an excellent video and breaks down the mechanics very simply.

As one of the comments on the video says, we seem to have lost the art of simple, practical instruction videos nowadays, whereas ten minutes watching that video has taught me a huge amount on how a watch actually works (a lot simpler than I initially thought too).
I remember finding a similar video a while back on the differential gearing systems used to drive cars - a fairly complex and relatively misunderstood device broken down simply in a ten minute video.
i really like this video. made me understand how a watch works after i tried figuring it out from reading and studying pictures for ages.
Thanks for the link, very informative and clear indeed! Sometimes, simple is better. These are the kind of posts I like to see on WUS!![]()

Here's another good source on how mechanical watches work from Orient:

Not a video, but very informative nonetheless.
