Watches no longer needed? One day without....

I forgot to put a watch on yesterday. I realized this the first time I checked for the time on my way to work. It was highly annoying to keep looking at my empty wrist for the time. I carry a cellphone AND a pager BOTH display the time.

I am sorry, they are not replacements for a watch. Perhaps people that think that don't check the time as much as I do?

Forgetting to wear a watch is a dismissable offence. Considering your upfront candor, I will impose just a suspension for this occurence.

You are hereby ordered to turn in whatever watch collection you have accumulated, and go without a watch for no less than 2 years. You can apply for a watch at that time.

That would drive me crazy! My watch is not just a way to tell time; it is my connection to the very concept of time.
When people ask me my age, I glance at my watch. When people ask me how long I've been in town, I glance at my watch. Before you ask, no, none of my watches display the year. I instinctively look at my watch anytime I think about time. If it's not there, I feel vulnerable, like when you realize you're not wearing your seatbelt or when your windshield suddenly fogs up. I can't explain what danger I feel I'm exposed to in the rare occasion that I am watchless, but then again, I don't see why that is any more irrational than our affinity for mechanical watches in the first place.

Talk about something no longer needed....you have a pager? Are you a drug dealer or a doctor?

A man's watch is a very cherished thing. You steal that, you might as well be stealing his soul.
