Bad rap?
The Panerai 318 Movement Scandal didn't help...
Many just see Panerai as over-priced for what you are getting.

is there a thread where I can read up on what happened, as well as the reactions?
Because:
a) Some people just think they are plain ugly.
b) Others think they are over sized.
c) Certain people hate the distinctive crown guards.
d) Others dislike their link to modern celebrity.
e) And some dislike what they considered to be disingenuous marketing in their past (claiming in house movements in their history when some were anything but a nice decorative in house mechanism).
I like Panerai. I own one. And anyone that doesn't can kiss my rump!

It was the boutique edition (IIRC,NY?) with solid caseback,usually Pam put the decorated 6497 inside,but this time they put ugly,undecorated 6497 inside,maybe that's why somewhat reluctant to buy handwound Pam with solid caseback (with the exception of 292)
Personally I love their watches,that's why I have several and still hunting for several other models..

Among watch lovers I believe the brand is getting somewhat of a bad rap due to the surge in popularity as of late. And we all know that many WIS can't stand when brands get too main stream and trendy. That's just a personal observation.
