The only problem with the new blue smpc is the date window background colour is black

I wouldn't worry too much about the date. The Royal Oak is a classic, and it had a blue dial and a white date field (though the 40th reissue has a dark field).

That's what I thought too, until I saw it in the flesh. I actually think that if the date window was blue it would look worse.

To be honest, I think you need to spend a few enjoyable hours trying some on.
Take the wife, girlfriend, family member etc with you, if you need help making
    the decision.
When i purchased my PO and DSSD the wife and I spent a few hours trying different
watches on....and drinking their free coffee!
    It's a really enjoyable experience.
I agree with Adrian. Trying on watches is a fabulous way to spend an afternoon. Also you may see other watches that weren't on your radar and you may end up smitten with it. :)
    Cheers,

I'll definitely plan on doing some watch browsing in Vegas, so many stores there to look at. I know there was one in the Venetian/Pallazo that I browsed briefly last time.

I've tried on the 2220.80 and the SMP-C before, but I need another go at it to make a decision.

Choices choices. It's a nice position to be in for sure.
I'd go with the 2220.80 because of the waves AND because it'll be the last of it's line. If you want to get the SMP C later you'll be still able to. Happy 30th!

I agree wholeheartedly. The design has been around long enough to have stuck. It's a gorgeous watch, and it doesn't look dated. It has become a classic. I don't usually use the word 'classic' because these days it is overused ("It's an instant classic!" Huh? No such thing), but the SMPc has become an iconic Omega design.

Both are fantastic and you can't go wrong with either. Hopefully one sings to you or maybe something else will pop up.

Vegas is riddled with shops and if memory serves me correct, there's a huge two level Tourneau in Caesars Palace. Happy hunting!

Well I think I'm going to have a pretty good birthday. Staying at the Wynn, Friday morning we're going to go across the street and have brunch at Grand Lux Cafe and then go try on some watches, come back and hang at the pool and drink, then go to a Mexican place for dinner, then head to the Voodoo lounge at night.

If I hit it big on the black jack table I might just buy a watch in Vegas, otherwise I'll prob just order whatever I decide on when I come home.

Get the 2220.80!!! I did! Before that, I spent quite some time at the AD trying out both the SMPc and the 2220... Ended up getting the 2220 coz the wavy dial just looks good and a SMP without the wavy dial pattern is just not a SMP. The wavy dial is the SMP signature, much like the teak dial of the AT. Still a mystery as to why Omega don't want to continue with the wavy dial.
