Again, it's personal but I would always get the hesalite version. I like the milky look of the domed glass. If I did ever get one I just know it would end up in the sea at some point.

Before I got to the end of the thread, I was going to write that it didn't matter which one you got because you will end up with both anyway.

Enjoy the Seamaster, it's a great piece

I know you're not me, but I won't buy a watch that costs about $5,000, must be hand wound, and has a plexiglass crystal. I know the "historical" reasons for the watch, but it's not for me. I hated it when TAG Heuer re-released the Monaco.

I'd go the Seamaster. There are several Speedmaster autos worth looking at that give you the same looks with updated build and materials.

Speedy pro hands down. I think the skeleton hands are dated and just visually do nothing for me at all.

Excellent points. Gray market I see them for $3300. Maybe around $2000-$2500 used.

How much would you pay for a Speedy? Or is never in the cards?

    • The Seamaster feels a good bit heavier than the Speedmaster on the wrist
    • The Speedmaster will come with extra goodies (if you're getting it new) such as a nato strap, springbar tool, and loupe
    • The Seamaster has half-links and no micro-adjust clasp out of the box
    • The Speedmaster has no half-links but a spring pin micro-adjust clasp out of the box
    • Both the Seamaster and Speedmaster can be fitted with Omega micro-adjust ratcheting clasps, but the Speedmaster needs different clasp attaching links, so it'll end up costing more if you want to go that route
    • The Seamaster is an automatic, while the Speedmaster is manual wind
    • The Seamaster has hacking seconds, while the Speedmaster does not
    • The Seamaster could be considered more rugged than the Speedmaster Hesalite, as the Seamaster has a ceramic bezel (aluminum on the Speedmaster) and sapphire crystal
    • The Speedmaster chronograph function can be finicky (search for Speedmaster issues/problems) so that may be a factor in your decision

With all that said, I side with many of the previous posts - go with your gut. I went with the Seamaster first, and I don't regret it at all. I'd still be completely satisfied with the Seamaster being my only Omega.
    Nice LIST!

For me both are wear everyday watches. I think the seamaster is a great watch to wear all day everyday but the speedy offers rich history and great value.
Nothing beats picking up my speedy and winding it, setting and wearing out for the day.

    Congrats! I love mine

I recommend you get the micro adjust clasp from the Seamster 300. Makes the watch a ton more comfortable.

Funny you should mention it - the AD recommended it as well, and I have it on order - 2 weeks though.
