    My semi-vintage Omega collection ;)

    Hi everybody,

since I'm new to this forum, I thought I would share a picture of my modest Omega collection as a way of introducing myself. After all, you can never really get tired of looking at Omegas, can you ? ;)

After I started to work as a junior doctor a few years ago, I felt like I needed something to make up for all the stress and sleepless nights. As the story usually goes, while surfing on the internet, I accidentaly came across a website dedicated to the history of Swiss watchmaking industry. A few months later, having spent much time online reading all that was available on the topic, I made a few cautious purchases. Now I'm afraid it's going to become a love that lasts a lifetime ;) I'm even planning on going to Switzerland to see all the museums and locations. After all, I don't live that far away.

Hi Ondra and welcome. That is a very nice selection you decided to start your collection with. 613 and 564 are probably the best vintage movements built by omega. I own a 601 (which is really a 613 without the date) and a 564 (which is really a 613 with an automatic winding) and they are both dead accurate and within COSC. Good luck with the new hobby, and do post some close ups.

    Hi KringleKriss,

thank you very much for your kind welcome and compliments. I did an extensive research prior to my purchases and ultimately decided on these calibers exactly on the grounds you stated. I'm amazed at how accurate these movements are after so many years in service. The Geneve is about -10s, Constellation -2/+2s and Speedie (which is no vintage of course) -4s a day on wrist.

A few poor close-ups (no Speedie image so far as it is a recent purchase. The Connie crystal is now completely buffed out and looks much better in vivo, I love the brown Hirsch Duke strap too). Sorry for any English imperfections, I'm not a native speaker.

You're quite welcome. Glad to see another colleague join the club. Being in the medical profession I'm sure you've done your homework prior to buying the watches.

Don't worry about your english, many of us aren't english native speakers.

In fact, M4tt's posts make me look up rare and unusual words and phrases quite often.

Thank you once again, always pleased to meet a colleague. Sadly we are not allowed to wear watches while at work in the hospital and I'm the one who constantly breaks the rule (it is not enforced in a strict way). Watchless, my wrist feels kind of empty and unnatural and yes I do admit that at times I check my watch just for the pleasure of doing so ;)

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your collection SO FAR lol. I collect a few vintage watches myself, not all omegas just the one which is a 600 cal. Its such a simple movement that runs and runs and at the same time keeps accurate time. My others range from old pocket watches and wrist watches. Your english is perfect, probably better then mine lol and yes I after look up some of M4TTS words myself lol. Have you seen any future buys so far?

    Hi joeuk,

again thanks for your words and compliments. You are right the Geneve was my first Omega and I fell in love with the tiny watch almost instantly. Nevertheless now I wear the Speedie as a daily beater. I'm also a proud owner of a Longines L990.1 calibre watch - what a history behind the movement, it makes a perfect watch for formal occasions. Now I'm after a vintage Seamaster anyway.

The vintage seamaster range is large, the sm300 is the best looking dive watch but if looking more for a dress watch cant go wrong with any of the seamasters. Glad to hear you have a other brand in your collection, vintage watches had some of the best movements most done in-house and robust.

That is a complete BS. There is not a shred of evidence that wristwatches promote the spread of hospital infection.

“Bare below the elbows”: Clinical value of a wristwatch

Besides, how can a patient know if he can trust a doctor if he can't see which watch he's wearing.
