Armstrong was chosen from among all astronauts who were chosen from among all Americans to represent all of mankind. I think what he did was a reflection of a great society at the time and the fact that he has chosen to remain in the background is extremely admirable.

Then there is also the conspiracy which some believe that they never went to the moon and that the entire thing was in fact a hoax. Which is probably one of the reasons why he keeps to himself. That is of coz another story
