Yikes! I just ordered the PO rubber strap w/ deployant...curved ends w/ white stitching. Hope it doesn't turn out like the one above.

i hope it doesn't for your sake either. what was omega thinking?. is this not covered under their warranty if it happens in that timeframe?
diver strap clearly seems to be the way to go when ordering rubber. i think omegas great but this is the type of thing that makes it look 'cheap' compared to rolex and last i checked they want to compete head to head. not good.
Yea, I thought that it might be because of this. Today it started to smell better but it's not odorless yet, but I can live with it. When I get back home i'll try what you recommended.
To the person that asked, it's a 2500 PO.
OMEGAFORCE, thanks for the pics; at least now I know it's not leather..
Also, if anyone was wondering, the new PO in China (Shanghai and Beijing) was around 7,000 USD, in Hong Kong it was 6,000 USD and in Singapore I could not get an exact price due to horrible customer service but it was around 6500 USD. You can get 7% money back in Singapore so that price ends up being a little lower. I was told before I left in an OMEGA boutique in the States that the new PO was 5,000 w/o tax.
All of these prices were from OMEGA boutiques and i was amazed at the vast numbers of OMEGA boutiques in Hong Kong and Singapore; you could literally find 4 boutiques in a 500-yard radius. Also, I don't know how much of a discount they would be willing to give so I am still uncertain if the US is the best place to buy an OMEGA.

Hi All
I have had 3 different rubber straps with stitching - 2 white and 1 orange. Both fitted and straight ends varieties.
The fitted versions which are newer are more padded than than the straight end versions.
However, both IMO are fantastic and will last a significant number of years if not abused.
If the OP wants a more robust strap go for the Divers rubber. This is my all time favourite.

So does anyone know of or can confirm positively that the new 8500 rubber stitched straps still use a cardboard core padding, or are they fully water resistant 100%? If this is still the construction padding material then only the 2500 dive strap will allow the 8500 watch to go into the water and strap not fall apart or get stink. I have a PM into Dimer to get to a definative answer to this question. I hope Omega have changed the stitched strap design to use padding that is fully waterproof, odor free, & water friendly. Solid rubber mold would be even better. The large amount of sweat that would work iteslf into the cardboard through the inner stitching alone would ruin it here in Hawaii and stink it up no doubt, much less a trip into ocean water to submerge it.

I think that the only straps suitable for heavy wet use are the bracelet and the diver strap with tang buckle.
IMHO, the design of the rubber w/stitch strap (for use with deployant) doesn't lend itself to rough'n'tumble use (ie. diving).
I agree.
Just sweat alone would soak the cardboard core easily in hot humid climate like Honolulu, Hawaii. Seems odd to bring the newest 8500 to market (a dive watch no?!) but only dive strap is to 2500 planet ocean watch, which has officially been discontinued. So the great new 8500 dive watch doesnt even have its own dive strap. I dont mind the 2500 dive rubber (quite like it!), but this seems a major oversight. Since the 2500 is DC'ed might not be long until 8500 owners have no 2500 dive rubber to source and since omega dont make another dive rubber...
Has anyone confirmed what the core of the 8500 rubber strap is with Omega? I imagine it is suitable for diving since it is the only rubber they offer on their advertised dive watch. Not saying it isn't possible, but it would be really irresponsible to advertise a dive watch with a strap that can't handle water so I assumed I'd be okay. I'd really like to know as I am about to purchase one for my PO.
I don't recall where it was, but I read that the standard PO 8500 rubber strap (the new one on deployant) doesn't have the cardboard inside and is solid rubber. I called the Seattle Omega Boutique a couple weeks ago and the salesman told me the new strap is fully waterproof.
If this isn't correct I would sure like to know before mine arrives.
