Real nice piece but I too prefer the regular one with just the date. And the smaller size version of course.

Love this watch. The only reason I didn't buy it was the servicing cost

That coffin shaped month/day window ruins an otherwise beautifully proportioned watch.

I think this watch would really come into its own if it were your only watch. Imagine how cool it would be if you have an AT AC which can be managed at +/- 0s/day (which my regular AT can achieve if I choose the correct rest position), which doesn't need to be hacked to adjust for travel across time zones or for daylight saving time (due to the jumping hour hand) and which only has to have the date corrected once per year at the beginning of March (due to the annual calendar). You would have a mechanical watch keeping excellent time which barely needs to be adjusted, ever! On top of this, it has the much vaunted and versatile Aqua Terra look.

Of course this is less interesting for those of us who have multiple watches and let them run down when not in use, or less satisfying for those who like to interact with their watch, even if it is just to correct the time. I belong to both of those categories, but I still have a lot of respect for the Aqua Terra Annual Calendar.

    Just a pity it's so bl**dy big...
I hear ya, I can definitely appreciate the time and craftsmanship that goes into making this. I do like the idea and if you think of it like you say, as a perpetual calendar that happens to show the month, I warm up a little. If it was up to me that window would be gone, but this "How to make a good looking dial" advice is coming from a guy who owns a few G-Shocks!

I agree with those who believe this is a beautiful watch. I wonder how long it will take for this watch to be known as the "Coffin AT" though?
The Aqua Terras are also one of the few sport watches who also happen to look fantastic in gold. The white gold and rose gold versions - especially those on croc strap looks fantastic and not vulgar at all (not that I can afford one though) .

Re: Omega Seamaster AT Anual Calender.

I have considered selling mine a few times but you know what, I just can't do it, even to make room for something I think I like better. Deep down, I know I would regret selling and would end up flipping the replacement piece and then trying to buy the AT back - and probably at a premium! I also have a Speedy 9300 which I wear in rotation with my ATAC - if one of these had to go I can honestly say the Speedy would be gone and the AT would remain.

To appreciate the Annual Calendar function you have to have an appreciation of mechanical watches and how darn clever the AC complication is. When I try and explain it to non WIS people who ask me about my watch not many of them get it, but that's fine.

As for the "coffin" month and date indicator, I've read this before and to me the slightly unusual shape adds to the character of the watch. And after all, we're all going there one day aren't we?

Farid, thanks for posting your photos and for starting this discussion. Mine says "Hi" and here's the obligatory photo (taken on New Years Day, not the 1st of just ANY month ):

It's just a great looking watch! And let's not call it ''coffin shaped'' anymore, let's call it ''X Wing Fighter canopy from Star Wars'' ;))
    Have a good one!

    Cheers,

I think these are wonderful watches. I appreciate the wonderful complication. I think this watch would be fantastic particularly if you had a larger frame and a"one"watch guy. Beautiful choice.thank you for sharing.
