Old topic but what the hey.

If we're talking fantasy here, my choices would be very standard, generic, and not at all unique:
    1. Rolex Sub
    2. IWC Pilots Chrono
    3. Patek Phillipe Calatrava 5116G

Re: The Perfect 3 Watch Rotation

    My current 3 watches are:
    1) Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Day date (office / suits)
    2) Rolex GMT BLNR (travel / casual)
    3) Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Chronograph (diver / chrono)

Seems to cover most of the bases. Also, my trio kind of of fit into the 'land / sky / sea' discussion quite well too, but that was more luck than judgement!

Re: The Perfect 3 Watch Rotation

I think my trio is pretty well-rounded (not counting the Explorer II, as its not mine. My father stopped wearing it and gave it to me for a while).

Up next is a diver, which is all I need right now.
    Current Collection:
    IWC 3777-01
    JLC Reverso Grand Taille
    Omega Speedmaster 3570.50
    Tudor Heritage Black Bay (Red)

    2- AP Royal Oak Jumbo
3- Speedy (still debating which to get, Pro vs 9300)

Right now I'm still trying to build my collection but its:

    1. Rough and Tumble: G-shock 9300 mudman
    2. Casual: Omega PO 8500 XL, black/silver on black OEM deployment
    3. Business and slightly more formal: Omega Aqua Terra gmt Chronograph (white)

All three of our autos, so the missus can have one (and, if I'm honest with myself, these would cover everything for us):

Re: The Perfect 3 Watch Rotation

To the OP, 3 watches are not enough. Everyone needs the following 5:

    1. A good beater diver (mine is a Breitling SOH 46 mm, a nice Seamaster 300 would be perfect otherwise)
    2. A protected diver or pilot watch for semi-formal wear (I have a Cartier Calibre Diver, other awesome choices are Blancpain 50 fathoms, PO or a Rolex Submariner)
    3. A real dress watch, preferably on a leather strap (JLC Master control, Cartier Ballon Bleu, PP Calatrava, Railmaster or DeVille)
    4. A tonneau or rectangular watch (Monaco, JLC Reverso, Cartier Roadster)
    5. One Speedmaster Professional
    6. Optional: Skeletonized dress watch
