pics and verifying my vintage seamaster

hi all, i'm nervously posting this thread to firstly get your opinions on my vintage Seamaster and secondly to verify it's authenticity and age.

I bought it through ebay via a dealer who has sold thousands of vintage swiss watches over a number of years (most a lot more expensive than mine from looking at the feedback) and has lots of positive feedback from customers all over the world. he also offers a 12mth guarantee with all sales.

I've removed the back and inside it states 24 Jewels (which is how it was sold to me), movement 552 (with a '1' inside the Omega symbol above). Serial no is: 21237115.

Inside the rear dust cover it states (which is hard to read in the pic):

    ACIER INOXYDABLE
then inside a triangle with curved edges:
    [Omega symbol]
    OMEGA
    WATCH CO

    underneath outside the triangle:
    FAB SUISSE
    SWISS MADE
    165.002

then in a shield like symbol the letters: 'SGR' which are shaped to fit in the shield.

It was sold to me as a 1964 model.

greatful for any help and thoughts

The case and movement seem perfect together and the 1964 date is right in the middle of the range for this model. However, I would guess that the dial was recently refinished. It does look like a decent quality job.

    Hope this helps,

Nice watch. Agree about the redial, but the letterforms don't look quite close to original to me. Not too bad, but not correct.
That being said, it's a fine vintage Omega. I'd be happy to own it.

thanks so much, i really really appreciate your info. i bought it as 'restored' and guessed the dial had been such as, as you say, the lettering of Omega doesn't quite look original and the paintwork is slightly 'stipple' textured.

i wanted something simple and clean, white and silver so am happy with it. just glad the movement and case are as they should be, the restored dial i can live with.

    thanks again,
    andrew

ps the back it mirror finish perfect

Yes, and the truth of the matter is, only you will be looking at your watch with a magnifying glass (every night, in fact)
