Please help with my first watch purchase!

Hi, I'm looking to purchase my first real watch and would love to get some feedback from the experts here. I'm looking for a watch that I can wear all the time and not have to worry about anything.

I've narrowed it down to the Tag Link Calibre 6 automatic, Omega Aqua Terra quartz, and Movado Fiero quartz.

I like the Tag Link because it's extremely comfortable and an automatic ... it's a beautiful sight being able to see it in action. I like the Omega AT because it's a beautiful watch and this will be the last chance to pick up a quartz before they discontinue them. I would love to and am considering the automatic but it's outside my price range ... unless someone can recommend a good reputable retailer. And lastly, I'm drawn to the Movado Fiero because of it's tungsten carbide case and bracelet. The fact that it's stronger than steel and scratch-proof is very enticing for every-day wear. A store was willing to fit it without me purchasing it and it fit really well and was pretty comfortable. However, it might be a little too dressy to wear all the time ... I should probably go check it out when I'm wearing a T-shirt or something.

I like the Omega face the most but it's the least comfortable (not by leaps and bounds), the Movado is indestructible, but the Tag may be the best value given it's an automatic.

    What does everyone think?

I'll take the Omega any day over the other 2.

I'd save for the Aqua Terra automatic if you want an automatic. Hey, it's the Omega forum - you had to expect the Omega to get the vote, right?

    Hi,

Well among the 3 choices - the Omega would be the watch to go in for. Personally i don't like Quartz (though its really accurate compared to Automatic) - so the TH with Automatic sure scores a few extra points on this. In terms of the way the watch looks TH Link is nice with a nice bracelet . Personally the model i like in TH is the Monaco. Btw i IMHO Movado is a 'no go' so you should work and see between the Omega and TH

Let's not kid ourselves. Obviously the Omega. I am guessing 99.99% of the replies are going for the Omega. This is the omega forum after all.

TAG Heuer Link is a good choice for the price. I would not go with Movado. If you really like AT automatic but it is little to expensive, how about saving up for little longer or look at some used ones like others have suggested?

    Current Collection:
    Omega Seamaster Professional 300M 2220.80.00
    Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 2201.50.00
TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Chronograph CV2010.BA0794
    TAG Heuer Link CJ1111.BA0576

#1 the Movado isn't stronger etc, the newer model Movados use a series of cheap plastic inside the watches, my dealer opened up a couple for servicing and the materials inside them are sub par to Omegas and Tags.

#2 the Link is more a dress watch and the lume on it blows, if you go Tag then get a Aquaracer Auto. there handing out decent discounts at dealers now a days because there discontinuing a couple models (25-30% on tags at my local TAG AD)

#3 if you want to go Omega quartz there also handing out around 15%-30% discounts on some omegas, I think some of the autos fall into that category as well. Be sure to ask for a discount at your local AD or they wont give you any :D

    i hope that helped :)

    Igor

P.S> If you really like the Aqua Terra auto but can't afford it, ask your local AD if he'd sell you a Demo model or last years model if he still has them in stock for a decent price. (if you tell some ADs your situation they'll try to get you what you want in your price range)

Re: Please help with my first watch purchase!

I was in a similar predicament a few months ago and I hope my rationale helps you:

If you buy one watch, what would give you them most satisfaction over the long term?
Which watch makes you smile when it's on your wrist?
Which watch has a classic style that you'd be happy with if you were only have one watch?

After trying on many watches between Tag and Omega, I ended up with the AT. The 4 year warranty really helped my decision despite the higher price. Hope that helps!

p.s. check out the 8500 thread as well as the AT threads, there are many great photographers on this board that have taken some stunning photos.
p.p.s. Skyfall AT should warrant a peak as well!
