Screw-down Crown on SMP GMT (Great White)

I am looking at buying a used Great White. The screw-down crown works but you can only screw it down about a 1/4 turn before it stops. Is this normal? Other screw-down crowns on most watches seem to take a turn or two before they lock in. If this is a problem is it easily fixed?

Not sure what is happening with that GW, but the crown on my GW takes about 4 passes between my thumb and first finger when tightening the crown once the threads are engaged. That probably equals a couple of turns or so.
