Would you mind explaining the reason for the longer springbars? For a tighter fit? It seems to be pretty secure now.

Yes, mav, Omega suggests, and rightly so, that steel bracelets use the shorter spring bars, which are just longer than the lug width, and leather and rubber straps use the longer spring bars, which are a good mm to 1.5 mm longer. We've actually discussed this very topic easily half a dozen times in the last two months alone. A lot of info available via search.

I've personally tested both lengths and the longer bars are much, much more secure. Leather, rubber and fabric straps all have some flex to them, and it's entirely possible for them to pull out the end of a shorter spring bar. Granted, this is likely to happen only in the rarest of circumstances, but nonetheless, the risk is real.

Ofrei sells OEM Omega spring bars in both lengths. The longer ones are the Spring Bar 03, and the shorter ones are the Spring Bar 04. They're quite costly, as far as spring bars go, but they're worth it. If you spend a good $35 to $45 on a few pairs, you'll be set for some time.

Good luck. And do a search for more info.

PS: I find it interesting that you have whatis essentially an Audi (Auto Union) on your key chain for your BMW.

There is no OEM Racing Strap with white stitching.

Dixan, thank you very much for the detailed explanation. Looks like I'm buying a few pairs of spring bars today.

PS - I like to think of it as BMW's modern interpretation of an Auto Union Type D, maybe they would name it Type ///M.
