I think its just pot luck.
I know someone else who got the po8500 and didn't have to pay anything.

A couple of months ago, I bought a Tissot from ACE. They used TNT for delivery, not UPS. The watch cost $323. Several weeks after I received the watch, I received a bill from TNT for $55 for custom brokerage services. Mastercard also hit me with a $10 transaction fee.

The UPS fee is COD. The delivery driver will take a check or cash. I don't think a CC is allowed. You'll find out the amount when they deliver it. Not perfect, but it is what it is.

Thanks for that. Sounds like they are all over the place on what they charge. Just curious if there's a rate they go by based on location, etc or if they just pull a number out of thin air.

I don't quite understand why the discrepancy in fee amounts. Shouldn't it be standardized for imports?

That's a great idea ... although, unfortunately, it will not end these threads. (How many threads get started, for example, asking about discounts ... despite a sticky saying doing so is not allowed?)

Ace really need to make a sticky on the top of the WUS Omega forum page that could answer ALL these question quite easily (store hours, chat hours, etc).

One more time from my own experience; There are no sales taxes due on imports from ace to usa in these states (and maybe more) hawaii, colorado, & washington state. The import duty costs for a new PO 8500 is between 120-250 (cheaper watch is less, more expensive watch is going to be more money)... Ace doesnt use TNT anymore and use UPS exclusively now for USA bound packages. UPS will allow you to pay duty fee import by personal check, driver would NOT accept cash. UPS will call you to get your social security number previous to delivery (USA law for imports over $2500.00 - has nothing to do with collection of taxes), you can pay import by credit card during this call. Some credit cards charge a fee (1-3%) to buy products in foreign currency, some cards charge nothing (chase sapphire). So you will have cost of watch, plus import duty, no tax, no shipping charges. You pay import on purchase price NOT full MSRP of watch...

There is a US customs watch import sheet used to determine import duty. Its many pages long, very detailed, and depending on who processes your watch the price will vary. You could order same watch, at same price, from same seller, 10 times, and never pay the same duty charge twice. It is a guessing game at best and UPS controls the outcome/pricing not Ace.

I called ups prior to the delivery and gave them all the information they needed for a duty import estimate (band material, jewel count, automatic movement, steel case, country of origin for the band/case/movement and cost of each part by break down). The estimate was in excess $375.00 and was obviously incorrect.

A week after Id already paid the ups driver approx 235.00 I got another bill, by mail, for an additional $10.00. A month later a WUS memeber here only paid UPS $120.00 total to ups for same watch, same price, to same location. He only paid 120.00 and never got an additional bill from ups.

Even if UPS duty had been accurate @ $375.00 the Ace price was so much less than anyone else (grey market without factory warranty included) it would not have even mattered.

I just bought my watch from Ace a week ago. There was a 6% Import fee. There is no rhyme or reason this this fee, it can be 3% one day, 6% the next, and can vary from State to State. Lets just say it is completely variable and ridiculous.. Be prepared from 3%-6%.

With UPS, you can call UPS when the watch hits the USA and pay your fees by credit card. If you wait until the watch gets to your door, you will not be able to use a credit card as the drivers cannot take them. I called and had it paid in advance on my card, driver came and just left me the package.

Some have talked about huge brokerage fees in the past. I spoke to UPS and they said unless there is some real problem with delivery etc., the brokerage feel is minimal.
On my new SMPc, I paid a $6.50 brokerage fee is all.

The one thing you DO want to do however is to call your State Tax Commission to see if they track this and if you will get a letter owing State Sales Tax. Easy call to make, no surprises.

    Good luck.

    It is already there.

Just click the banner and you will be taken to ACE's website which has all the information to answer all the questions and an email address for questions that can not be answered.
