Where to buy, is online safe?

Hi guys, please be patient, I'm a newbie here! I have looked at high end watches for years and never thought I would save enough to buy one. Well I am now in a position to part with some hard earned cash and buy my first Omega. I have pretty much decided on a new Speedmaster Broad Arrow co-axial(321.10.44.50.01.001). I would really appreciate advice on whether it is safe to buy online without worrying that I might have bought a fake. The online saving for the Broad Arrow is around £1000. £3700.00 (online price) is still a big dent in my bank balance and I would be grateful for your expert and informed advice. Do you guys all buy from approved dealers or are there 'safe' price savings to be had? Thank you if you take the time to reply.

    BIG WELCOME to the forum.

Online can be safe and not safe at the same time. There are some super high feedback ebay sellers for pre-owned Omega's and also a lot of grey market new sellers that are safe.

Then there are the lower end feedback sellers on ebay and the private classifieds. You can minimize the risk by finding out more about the seller and trusting your gut feeling.

The first are usually more expensive, the latter are the band for your dollar (pound) deals. So the more risk, usually the better the deal.

If your after one new, why not check out the forum sponsor, ACE? PM me for the discount code and calculate if the VAT is worth it.

Obviously with an Authorized Dealer (AD) like the sponsor, your safe not only in authenticity, but also you have the full warranty. With grey market, you need to be aware the warranty is not from Omega in almost all cases. With pre-owned, you can still get the proper Omega warranty as long as its within the period and the seller bought it from an AD.

Which path are you thinking? I can give you more input if your looking at buying the more risky option (dont forget to PM me if you want to go the authorised way).

I dont mind saying that I am a bit of a risk taker. But its paid off IMO. My Planet Ocean cost me $1600 a few years ago (still under warranty) and I also picked up a low-end DeVille brand new (but slightly scratched on caseback) for under $250 without a strap. I also picked up a few Omega SMP's in quartz for just under $1000, but sold them for a little profit or break-even. Another good one I found was for my father, I found him the new SMP quartz in black for about $950 only worn few a few months and full warranty. My only BRAND NEW AD watch was my IWC, but I got a super deal from ACE for it and a pre-owned one at the time would only have been a few hundred dollars less.

I really appreciate your reply. Not sure I can do you justice in my reply on my iPhone! I would appreciate a discount code for Ace. I have looked at their site and thought their prices look pretty good. On reflection, I think for my first Omega I would prefer to buy new from an AD. Maybe take a risk on the next one! At the risk of sounding like a fool.........how do I PM you Anonymousmoose?
