Question ASK :: Automatic watch but not for daily use?

    Hi All,

I bought my first automatic Watch (Orient big mako),

But I do not use it every day, I only used it the day I might use on Friday / Saturday and Sunday or weekend, so on Tuesday till friday in not working, and I do not have a watch Winder

Question is, Is it safe, if every week I watch re-adust with the current time?
Is it going to affect the precision and durable automatic machine? For all automatic watch, not just orient watch

    Thx

You have absolutely no problem letting it wind down, and then restarting it.
You dont need a watch winder, all is good!

Okay... I think the main issue here, is that it's your FIRST automatic watch!!!! So far.

Things will become easier once you have collected a bunch o' watches. That way you get the rotation thing happening and you won't have to adjust the same watch every weekend.

Depending on the depth of your addiction... you may only be winding a particular watch every couple of months!

    Not helping? Yeah, I know.

The only thing is when you are re-setting the time from a dead watch, you have to be careful about the setting the date since you are not supposed to manually adjust the date when the watch shows between 9 pm and 3 am. If the watch dies with the hands at 12, you don't know if this is noon or midnight. So to reset your watch do the following:

    1. Set the time to 6:00. AM or PM does not matter.
    2. Set the day/date to yesterday.
    3. Advance the hands through the date change into today's date and then set the correct time.
    4. Screw in the crown, give it a few shakes back and forth with the watch parallel to the ground and you're good to go.

I believe the big Mako has a screwed down crown. When resetting the time, take care when screwing it back down so you don't strip the threads. Other than that, as pointed out by others already, there's no problem letting the watch power down.
