Charging a Kinetic with a toothbrush charger.

I guess this is just internet folklore. Have read so many placed this work via induction, but not with my BFK.

    Any success?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I had a SKA427 a few years ago. I used an Oral-B toothbrush charger to give it a charge once every few months.

Sold everything last year and not coming back to Kinetics ever!!

Looking at this thread there are several brands that supply induction chargers specifically designed for their watches. Too bad for whatever reasons Seiko doesn't make one.
    Omega> AquaTerra2500, PlanetOcean2500. Rolex> 214270 Explorer. Seiko> SARB033, SARG007, SBDX017 MarineMaster300, SKX007, SLA017 62MAS reissue, SRP773/777 Turtles TAG Heuer> WAP2010 Aquaracer.

Google Seiko kinetic charger. Not cheap though.

I have a large collection and Kinetics are good if worn at least once a week or more to keep their battery at full capacity.

It has all the drawbacks of automatic watches (moving parts that will need maintenance) and all the drawbacks of quartz watches (quartz ticking hands) combined in one package. They are as accurate as any good quartz watch and solidly made but the efforts needed to keep them at full charge are not worth it IMO and mine would fall to 50% of capacity after only a few days after a charge on the induction charger.

I don't understand why Seiko sticks with this technology in their current watches.

A whole raft of induction chargers will work with Kinetics but it's not just a case of lobbing them on as there is a sweet spot for both the watch and charger. As there is no "charging" indicator it's a case of using trial and error to see whether the watch is actually charging. Phillips make an induction 'T' light charger that is said to be good for the job though I know nothing about them.

Re: Charging a Kinetic with a toothbrush charger.

I bought a SUN043 a couple of weeks back. It came with a 5 second indication of battery charge. I immediately started wearing it, though my workplace is largely a sedentary affair, except for a half-hour of brisk walking every day. After one week it went up to the 10 second position when doing the charging check. I then got hold of a Braun toothbrush charger from ebay, and started keeping it overnight, first with the crystal up for almost a week, and continuing with the daily half-hour walk. At the end of the 2nd week it moved to the 20 second mark. Then I read a thread on another forum where the poster talked of placing it face down, with the 6 o'clock facing out. I did this for two nights, and had an active Sunday morning doing some housework. Voila - it now hits the 30 second mark. I have kept the watch in it's box for the last 20 hours, and it's still showing 30sec full charge. I will rest it now for a full two days and see if the indication holds. If it drops, I plan to use the Braun charger exclusively to take it back up, in the face down position, and see if it's really the Braun that is working. In any case the feeling of triumph is great, for the moment!
